As if a Sunday evening of bowling at Arsenal Lanes wasn’t great enough…

The every popular DJ Swank Cat is bring the Summer of Swank to Sunday night.

Sunday, July 26, 2009 – 9pm – Lebowski Bash2009 – Arsenal’s Tribute to The Big Lebowski.  Lebowski tunes and bowling prize giveaways!

The Trib recently profiled DJ Swank Cat – this is my favorite question and answer from the article.

Q: What is one of the weirdest things that has happened while performing?

A: Printable? Hmm … because of technology, I’ll play a song and everyone will get out their cell phones, whether it’s an iPhone or one of the other phones that can interpret what the song is and then tell them what the song is. So it’s funny. I’ll be playing and all of a sudden all these hands will come up holding these glowing phones trying to figure out what the song is. And more often than not, it won’t show up on the phones, which is great.

Whuffaoke = Social Capital Meets Karaoke – The Karaoke Road Trip Stops in Pittsburgh

The Whuffie Factor = final cover!

What the Whuffie?

Whuffie is a term used to explain social capital in a new book called The Whuffie Factor by Tara Hunt. I am reading this book now and it is a really interesting look at how social capital is playing an increasing role in business today and how social media connects people and helps to build social capital. I think the community that has grown around IheartPGH definitely has some Whuffie factor too. Learn more about the book at TheWhuffieFactor.com

What does this have to do with Karaoke?

Tara and her friends are on a cross country road trip in an RV with a karaoke machine and they are making a stop in

Pittsburgh this Saturday.

The story unfolds….Five friends: Tara Hunt, Tony Bacigalupo, Alex Hillman, Emma Persky, Karen Hartline plus their furry friend Ridley load up a moving truck and RV with Tara’s worldly possessions and a karaoke machine — complete with costumes and stage — and venture across America, starting in San Francisco and ending in Montreal.

PGHRoots to Netroots Nation

Ask the Speaker

You may have read about Netroots Nation from some of the other bloggers in Pittsburgh recently.  The annual Netroots Nation will be held in Pittsburgh this year from August 13-16, 2009.

Netroots Nation originated as the Yearly Kos in 2006 as a place for bloggers from the DailyKos to meet and share.  I remember reading about it in the Post-Gazette and even watching some of the panels on C-Span.  It made me realize that blogging can lead to the creation of some powerful communities.  I continue to be amazed at how many people follow IheartPGH on a daily basis – last week IheartPGH gained our 2000th Twitter follower which  is just amazing!  When we started this blog back in 2006 I had no idea that it would become such a place for sharing so much great information about Pittsburgh. The event, to be held at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts in Shadyside, will feature clothes from 15 lines carried on Modcloth.com. Modcloth donated all the clothes for the event and will also donate 10% of its sales on Friday, July 25th to the CFF.
