Earlier this year the Pittsburgh Symphony performed the first in the series of mash-up performances called FUSE@PSO. The next FUSE@PSO performance is Beethoven + Coldplay and takes place on Tuesday, October 6. I had the opportunity to meet Steve Hackman who is the conductor of these performances last week. He is new to Pittsburgh and doing some really interesting things to get more new faces to the Pittsburgh Symphony.
Here is a video of the last FUSE@PSO performace which was a mashup of Brahms + Radiohead:

One of my favorite places in Pittsburgh, that I am surprised that more people don’t know about, is TechShop Pittsburgh. Hack Pittsburgh created Pittsburgh’s first maker space back in 2009, and continues to offer programming and events for Pittsburgh makers today. When TechShop Pittsburgh opened two years ago, it provided more opportunities for Pittsburghers to collaborate and innovate.

Not a baker? Not a problem. You can impress your family with a custom laser etched pie. TechShop Pittsburgh is offering a pretty cool class for Thanksgiving. You and your guest will get to use the Trotec laser cutter and will take home a custom laser-etched desert.
If you haven’t had a chance to explore TechShop yet – this is a great starter class. I am a huge fan of using the laser cutter and this pie workshop is a great way to spend an evening preparing a special Thanksgiving treat.

In addition to pumpkin pickin and hay rides, there are lots of other ways to get into the Halloween spirit around Pittsburgh this week. While the Pittsburgh Glass Center’s blown glass pumpkin workshop has already sold out, there is still plenty of space left in the other workshops. I know the glass workshops are popular and we’re already working on a post about ornament workshops for the holiday season.
