Way Better Than Light Up Night – Festival of Lights

In 2007, I think this was part of the Arts Festival or the Celebration of Glass but i can’t seem to find any pictures from this, there was an amazing display here in Pittsburgh where these photos were projected on a bunch of buildings downtown.  The event was so popular in 2007 they extended the display. The Festival of Lights is back to celebrate Pittsburgh’s 250, yes we are still celebrating. This festival is really impressive, fun to look at and FREE.

The festival kicks off this Friday, October 10, 2008  in Katz Plaza.
Pittsburgh Jazz Legend Etta Cox will be performing a free concert starting at 6pm. The lights will be turned on around 8:30pm.

Check out some more pictures here.

There isn’t much info up on the web about when and where the lights on the other buildings will be displayed.  I will update when I get more info.

History Mystery Run

Pittsburgh’s Hash House Harriers (aka PGH H-3) refer to them selves as “the drinking club with a running problem.”

What is Hashing?
You have just stumbled upon an International phenomenon, where a group of people, “Hashers”, follow a cryptic trail that has been marked with flour by the “Hare”. This trail leads to beer, water, snacks, and a lot of camaraderie.   Some people run, some people walk, but they all follow these cryptic marks along streets, trails, and off the beaten path until they find a beer stop. Now there is water there too, and snacks, but really we are known as a Beer Drinking Club with a Running Problem.

Pittsburgh’s Hash House Harrier’s are getting into the Pittsburgh 250 spirit with a History Mystery Run This Monday.  This mystery run will hit a couple of Pittsburgh’s historical sites and will be about 3-4 miles.

The Hash House Harriers have many other runs planned – check out their website for details.

Pittsburgh: The Opera

I saw a flyer for this at the Union Project today – when I first looked at the flyer I thought it might be along the lines

of MTV’s Carmen: A Hip Hopera – which was popular a few years back. But Pittsburgh: The Opera looks even better. This is way more than opera – video, interviews, puppet show, dance and more.

Pittsburgh: The Opera sold out last year and is back for a repeat performance this weekend at the Kelly-Strayhorn Theater. This is a multimedia experience from the folks at Squonk Opera, a world famous performance group that started with their first performance in the Pittsburgh junk yard in 1992. Continue reading
