♫ Music in Ahrn City TONIGHT: David Berkeley

David Berkeley will be having his CD Release Show TONIGHT at Club Cafe at 7pm for his new album Some Kind of Cure.  This CD is based on his experiences living in a very small village in Corsica with his wife and young son.

If you like to listen to Joseph Arthur, Damian Rice, David Gray, or Nick Drafe — you will throughly enjoy his album.  A few of my personal favorites on the album include:  “Homesick,” “George Square,” and “Marie.”  The music is so raw and pure, and each song paints a different story and experience.  His lyrics make me want to leave the Ahrn City and head to Corsica.

If you aren’t doing anything tonight, this is the perfect kind of music to sit with a cup of coffee and listen to (or beer if you prefer!)  If you can’t make it out tonight, take the time to listen to it here.

David earned ASCAP’s Johnny Mercer Songwriter Award, and his song “Fire Sign” was written specifically for and featured in the CBS series “Without a Trace.”  Berkeley has been featured on WFUV, World Cafe, Mountain Stage, XM/Sattelite, NPR, “This American Life” and was recently a finalist in the Mountain Stage New Song competition. He has toured/opened for Dido, Ben Folds, Rufus Wainwright, Ray Lamontagne, Billy Bragg, Don Mclean, Nellie Mckay, Guster, Gary Jules, and many more.

Surfs up with the Deep End Ampitheater at the Leslie Park Pool – Saturday, July 24th from 6pm until dusk.

The all-ages concert of live instrumental classic and modern surf music produced by Lawrenceville’s own nightlife provocateur, Michael “Zombo” Devine will feature an action-packed, super danceable line-up. The bill includes “best-of” bands Daikaiju, Kabuki Surf from Alabama, The Action Cats and the Wakening. Plus old-school classic sixties sounds and zombie surf music will be playing through out. Cool down this summer with a concert like no other at the Deep End Ampitheater at the Leslie Park Pool. Continue reading

Great Lake Swimmers at Schenley Plaza

With any luck these mid-afternoon showers will subside in time for the WYEP Final Friday Concert tonight at Schenley Plaza.

The free concert begins at 7pm under the tent and features the Canadian band Great Lake Swimmers. The most notable aspect of this contemplative folk outfit is the haunting vocals of frontman Tony Dekker — watch his NPR Tiny Desk Concert from June to see what I mean.

For more information about other similar music events, check out WYEP.org. Information about events in Schenley Plaza and Pittsburgh’s other major parks can be found at the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy.
