Jamaican Coffee Grower Visits Pittsburgh on Dec. 10

One of the best kept secrets in the East Liberty Farmers’ Market is the Kew Park Coffee Bar.  The short version of the story is … a The Lagnese’s family, who live in Pittsburgh, takes a trip to Jamaica, visits the Kew Park Coffee Plantation and form a partnership to bring the Kew Park Coffee directly to Pittsburgh.  Dave Lagnese has volunteered much of his time to bring great things to the East Liberty Farmers’ Market (plus he also donates his time to Construction Junction).

If you haven’t stopped by the East Liberty Farmer’s Market – you really should – it is across the street from the Home Depot in East Liberty and open year round.  actually the Farmers Market has been in operation since 1941.

This Saturday, December 10, 2011 – Peter Williams who runs Kew Park Coffee in Jamaica will be here in Pittsburgh at the market.  Stop by to pick up some coffee and say hello!

Sat. Sept 3 – Raffle for Steel City Big Pour Tickets

Long time readers of IheartPGH know how much we <3 the Steel City Big Pour.  The Big Pour is beer festival/annual fundraiser for Contruction Junction.  We didn’t even blog about this years event because the tickets sold out so quickly – a testament to the popularity of this event.  Not only does the Big Pour give one a chance to support a great organization like Construction Junction while drinking beer, but it is a very well organized event.  We know there is a hard working crew of dedicated volunteers who work year round to make sure this event is a huge success.

One of those volunteers is Dave Lagnese – not only is he a super supporter of the Big Pour but he also volunteers his time to make the Farmers Market Cooperative of East Liberty a success.  He is responsible for bringing the Kew Park Coffee Bar to the Farmers Market and does a ton of work to promote the Farmers Market as well.

If you are looking to get your hands on some tickets for the 2011 Big Pour – Stop by the Kew Park Coffee Bar at the East Liberty Farmers Market (it is the building across the street from the Home Depot) on Saturday, September 3 between 7 and Noon.  There will be a raffle and an auction for a pair of Big Pour tickets.

Due to the snow – the East Liberty Farmers’ market – which is usually open Saturday mornings – will be open on Sunday so that the meats and produce don’t go to waste.  New to the Farmers’ Market is the Kew Park Coffee Barread more about it in the East Liberty Post.  Also check out some of the great photos that Subu, inc took of their visit to the Farmers’ Market last month.

From one of the organizers:

The parking lot is plowed and the streets are now accessible. We decided to open up on Sunday so the meat and produce don’t spoil. Please try to stop by to support the farmers- and you can avoid fighting the crowds at the grocery stores. We will have coffee, hot chocolate and fresh squeezed juice at the Kew Park Coffee stand.

Farmers’ Market in January? Yep – The East Liberty Farmers’ Market is indoors and has been since the 1940s.
