Thanks to a great WDVE listener for sending me an email about this event! It is about time we revisit the Pittsburgh Curling Club – which was one of the first things we profiled when we were just starting this little blog.

In honor of the Olympics – the Pittsburgh Curling Club is opening their doors to offer an Olympic Open House.  For just $10 you can join the curling club and learn the basics of this unique sport.  Stop by the RMU Ice Complex this Saturday or next Saturday, bring some clean sneakers and try your hand at curling. Randy Pausch Memorial Flag Football Tournament

PUMP which runs the PSL (Pittsburgh Sports League) is organizing the second annual Randy Pausch Memorial Flag Football Tournament.  The Tournament will be held on Sunday November 1, 2009.  Registration for the tournament is open now.  All of the proceeds benefit PUMP and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

More info and registration available at: randypauschfootball.com

ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT

The Randy Pausch Memorial Flag Football Tournament was founded in 2008 to honor Randy Pausch, our friend and CMU professor who inspired millions worldwide through his highly acclaimed “Last Lecture.” Randy died of complications from pancreatic cancer on July 25, 2008.

We first got to know Randy in a different light — as a passionate and intense flag football participant in PUMP’s Pittsburgh Sports League. Last year, we created this tournament in honor of Randy’s love of the game and in keeping with goals of living life to the fullest and focusing on others.

This year’s tournament will feature both men’s and women’s 5-vs-5 tournaments, each with a recreational and competitive division. Teams are guaranteed to play at least 2 games. This will not be a double-elimination tournament like last year. Teams will not be expected to be at the field all-day long, but can expect to be there for a few hours. Teams will play 2 other teams from the same division (minimum), and the top 2 will advance to a championship game.
