  • Women and Girls Foundation Visits the White House – eight young women from the Women and Girls Foundation’s Regional Change Agents and GirlGov were invited to visit the White House last week for an event on mentoring. They were able to meet president Obama and attend a luncheon at the White House. Congrats to the Women and Girls Foundation!
  • P-Rogues – Pierogi Greeting Cards available at Urban Gypsy (from Blogski) – "P-Rogues, by Polish Hill artist and designer Myra Falisz, which feature little pierogi characters." – Click the link to see these awesome pierogi greeting cards. Nothing says happy wedding like a bride and groom pierogi. Available at Urban Gypsy in Polish Hill.
  • Downtown residents get their DNA back – Keep an eye out for lots of good things to come from the DNA – The Downtown Neighbors Association is making a comeback.

  • FoodBurgh visits the JuiceBox Cafe – Nice review with lots of photos from FoodBurgh of the new cafe in Shadyside. Juice Box Cafe offers smoothies, wraps and salads – all with a focus on fresh and healthy.
  • Plans for a new sustainable cafe in Homewood – Construction scheduled to start in August. The building will be powered by a geothermal energy system. "More than just a coffee shop, Café 524 hopes to spur the rebirth of the Homewood business district and serve as a catalyst for sustainability and community activities. " (via PopCity)
  • New program from Sprout Found supports biodiversity projects – The Sproud Fund – which has supports lots of interesting, fun and innovative projects in Pittsburgh is launching Spring – a new program to support biodiverstiy projects. The Sprout Fund Seed Award (I am a committee member for the Seed Award) supports all kinds of projects – you don't need to be a non-profit or a business to get a grant. If you have an idea – talk to Sprout to see if your project might be a good fit for a grant. (via PopCity)

  • Great Lakes Urban Exchange Conference 2010 – Urban Laboratories – Join other city lovers to share ideas and discuss issues. This years conference is in Cleveland – July 15-17, 2010. We were lucky enough to attend last years conference in Milwaukee and would highly recommend this to anyone interested in urban issues of mid-west cities
  • Coffee, record and comic book shops to open all in one building in Polish Hill – More great reasons to love Polish Hill. 3 story building in Polish Hill will have a coffee shop, record shop and independent book store.
  • Miller Gallery now has an online Store – The Miller Gallery at Carnegie Mellon University has just launched an online store. Through the magic of the internet you can now purchase past catalogs, books, post cards, t-shirts and other items from exhibits at the gallery. Check out the Yes Men activity book – and if you haven't seen the movie The Yes Men – add that to your cart too. There are a number of books here that I am adding to my reading list.
