Best Steelers Bars – Help Me Put Them on the Map!

Steeler Fans RepresentImage by drewesque via Flickr It is the start of football season and that means Steelers fans will gather together around the world. Where do you go to watch the Steeler Games?  What bar has the best tvs?  What bar has the best crowd?

Please share your favorite Steelers bars -in Pittsburgh or beyond – I know there is a group of people that gather in a bar just outside of Jacksonville, FL and I am counting on Friend of IheartPGH who lives in Honolulu to send pictures of the Hawaiian Steelers Bar.  I will add them all to this newly created Official Looking Steeler Bar Map.

You Can See a Year of Garbage at the YERT Homecoming

Step in to the blog time machine or click here to go back to June 2007.  A group of folks held a kick off event right here in Pittsburgh for a Year long Your Environmental Road Trip (aka YERT).

Well it is a whole year later and the YERT crew is coming home.  to celebrate there is a family friendly FREE party filled with fun for everyone at the very appropriate venue of the Rachel Carson Homestead.

  • Come learn about their trip to all 50 states where they interviewed over 800 people about environmentally pressing issues.
  • I am intrigued by this statement “We’ll also have ALL of our garbage from the year on display for you to admire or critique if you like.” – I can’t really imagine what it would be like to bring my trash along with me.
  • The infamous “Bag Monster” will make an appearance for the kids.

Pictures from the Water Balloon Fight

I really didn’t know what to expect when I agreed to volunteer at the Market Square Water Balloon Fight. It was an awesome afternoon – there had been a group of volunteers who spent all day filling water balloons. When I arrived around 3, a crowd had formed and was enjoying the music of Joy Ike (Joy is fan of IheartPGH and it was great to hear her preform). Omar-Abdul took over as DJ to get the crowd pumped up. I am not just saying this because I Omar-Abdul is a friend, he is one of the best DJs I know. I didn’t have a full appreciation of the skill of a DJ until we had a run in with a not great one back at the IheartPGH party last year. I have heard Omar-Abdul many a time and it is always a good time. If you see his name on the list of DJ’s then you are in for a treat. Check out his monthly event The Big Throw Back which is usually at the Brillobox each month.

At 4pm The kids fight kicked off and it was 15 minutes of cute kids going crazy. The kids fight was followed by the adult fight – 2 pick up trucks filled with water balloons were moved into the middle of market square for the event. It was really great to see so many people fill market square and just enjoy the summer in Pittsburgh. One of my favorite pictures is above and here are some other pictures I took during the day.
