Duck Tape Prom – Local Highschool Students Need Your Vote

I had heard rumors about this contest in the past and I received the link to StuckAtProm.com from Emily (Emily and I both work on the blog WhatIfPost) in an email today.

Stuck at Prom is a contest held by the good folks who manufacture Duct Tape for high school students to create a prom dress and tuxedo out of duct tape.

Thanks to Pitt Girl (she writes the Burgh Blog) I learned that one of the top 10 finalists is from the Pittsburgh area. Click here to read the Post-Gazette article about the dress.

Winning couples receive a $3000 scholarship and their school also receives $3000. Currently Sharon Dranko and Joshua Humm are in the lead with over 16,000 votes. Voting ends June 29, 2008.

Duct Tape Dress Stats:

  • $600 worth of Duct Tape
  • 140 hours to make
  • The dress weighs over 50 lbs

Fish Fry Season – who has the best fish fry in Pittsburgh?

While I was not raised Catholic, I have come to appreciate the tasty annual tradition of the Fish Fry.  Friday, February 8 marks the start of the annual fish fry season.  Luckily, the Pittsburgh Catholic Newspaper has a complete list of local fish fries.  So, I am on a quest to find out who has the best fried fish in Pittsburgh – please share your favorites – I would like to try to feature a different fish fry each week.

Check out the Post-Gazette’s article on Fish Fries here.
