cityLive – People that do more than talk

For over a year now, cityLIVE has been putting together interesting panel discussions and forums on all sorts of interesting topics. Check out my post about the first cityLIVE event here. Both CEOs for Cities and Return to Pittbsuburgh have posted a write up on the last cityLIVE event. The next cityLIVE event, March 12, 2009 at the New Hazlett Theater, should be equally interesting – the theme is Moved to Action – and I know first hand how inspring these panelists can be.

$0.80 Admission to the Warhol & Warhol on MTV

It is August 6 is Andy Warhol‘s birthday and yesterday he would have turned 80 years old. To celebrate Andy’s birthday – admission to the Warhol Musuem is just $0.80 (Free if you are 80 years old) on Saturday, August 9, 2008. Click here for details at Warhol.org
The Warhol Museum is a great place for a quick or long visit. Since admission is only $0.80 it is definitely worth stopping by to see whats new. I love the building, I like the art work – I really like the archives but those are closed for this year.

Last year I learned that just before he died Andy Warhol had his own series on MTV – Andy Warhol’s Fifteen Minutes. When I wrote the post back in February of 2007 – I couldn’t find any clips of his show.

Lucky for me – The Warhol Museum will be showing the pilot and the first episode of the series on Saturday @ 3pm. Sadly the Warhol Museum website provides no other info about the film. Click here for the IMDB page – which doesn’t have much info either.

Andy Warhol’s 80th Birthday

Here are some other blogs that wrote about Warhol’s 80th Birthday – it is really interesting to see how other people reflect on Andy Warhol:

North Side Celebration in The Park – July 26, 2008

Thanks to Cosette from CosyMake for posting this great picture of the flyer for the North Side Celebration in the Park Flyer. She will be there selling some of her beautiful hand knit items. The festival is hosted by a North Side native Johnny Angel from Johnny Angel and the Halos.

Reasons to Celebrate in the Park:

Happy Birthday Children's Museum – $.25 Admission on Saturday

The Children’s Museum is celebrating 25 years of kid sized fun.  I loved going to the Children’s Museum as a kid and I have been looking for someone to lend me their kid so I can go check out the new and expanded Children’s Museum.  In the past few years they expanded into what used to be the Buhl Science Center.  Check out this blog post on Null Space which links to this article about a professor who was inspired by the planetarium.

To celebrate the Children’s Museum is having a big party on Saturday and admission is only$.25, which is a great deal because it is usually $8 for kids and $9 for adults.

Some of my favorite things about the Children’s Museum:

  • Suffy – the large stange looking guy whose stomach unzips so you can see his stuff organs
  • Screen Printing – while you usually only get to print on paper, screen printing has become one of my favorites and had a big part in my path to t-shirts.
  • Braille Typewriters – I loved typing my name in braille and attempting to read it later

I have no idea if these exhibits are still there.  I would love to hear what you like/remember about the Children’s Museum.
