Links Worth a Look – July 6th

Here are some links/articles/blog posts that are worth a look:

  • Big Burrito Email List – If you like food, restaurants, cooking or learning more about a Pittsburgh business – we suggest that you sign up for the Big Burrito Mailing List – they do a really nice job with the updates each month and it is nice to read more about how their restaurants come together, where the food comes from and what non profits they are working to support each month.

    If you are a business owner this is a great example of how you can use email to tell your story to your customers and potential customers too.

    And each email comes with a story and some seasonal recipes from the Big Burrito corporate chef.

  • Best Restaurants for American Cuisine: OpenTable 2010 Diners’ Choice Winners | – Big Burrito's Eleven has made Open Tables list of top 50 Best Restaurants for American Cuisine. Thanks to the Big Burrito folks for putting Pittsburgh on the map again.
  • Startup! – Take or Teach Classes about Business in Your Community – Keep an eye out for more classes from Startup! this is a new project offering classes in creating businesses that benefit communities. We learned about StartUp! from Mark Dixon – who has been creating a great community around going green with his 50 state tour and documentary – YERT.

Here are some links/articles/blog posts that are worth a look:

  • Day 62 of 365 Days of Beer – East End Smokestack Heritage Porter « 365 days… 365 beers – Drew lives in Pittsburgh and is drinking and blogging about a new beer every day for 365 days. Check out his post on the East End Smokestack Heritage Porter. He is currently on day 83 of this challenge. This blog looks great and has nice photos of the beers too. Maybe we can meet up with Drew one of these days to try out some other Pittsburgh beers.
  • Post-Gazette Article on Digital Marketing – Fizz or fizzle? Pepsi ads end-run Super Bowl, go digital – This is an interesting article from the Post-Gazette for 2 reasons. 1. a look at how Pepsi is approching Super Bowl ads – rather than TV they are spending money on community grants voted on by the online community. 2. This article highlights some of the Pittsburgh advertising firms and the work they are doing in digital marketing.
  • Growing Power's National-International Urban & Small Farm Conference – I had the opportunity to visit Growing Power, which is an urban farm located in Milwaukee last year during the GLUE (Great Lakes Urban Exchange) conference. It was an eye opening visit to learn about food sourcing,urban farming and land use. If you have any interest in small and urban farming this is a great organization to check out and I am sure this will be a fantastic conference.
