Kayak, Climbing Wall, Fishing, Dragon Boats – FREE

Yep.  Free!  Did I mention Free.  The weather is warmer (ok so it is raining and I had to turn the heat on today to dry out the dampness in the house – but it is still warmer than January).  And that means it is time for outside fun.  To kick off the summer season and celebrate great outdoors week – check out the Venture Outdoors Festival on Saturday, May 21, 2011.

Each year – Venture Outdoors – kicks off the summer – by bringing out all the gear for you to try out almost everything they have to offer – for FREE.

Polish Festival and Lawrenceville Artists' Studio Tour

UPDATE – Artist Studio Tour is Saturday, November 13 – the Polish Fest is Sunday, November 14.

Between noon to five today SUNDAY head to the Cathedral of Learning in Oakland to check out the Polish Festival. There will also be crafts and music but who are you kidding? You know you’ll be there for the pierogi, haluski and stuffed cabbage.  Want to walk off that full belly?  Head to Lawrenceville for the sixth annual Artists’ Studio Tour. This free self guided walking tour lets you check out artists working in a variety of media.  Download a map here or pick one up at Gallery on 43rd Street (187 43rd Street).  Tour attendees can also pick up a coupon for a discount on Quantum Theatre’s production of When the Rain Stops Falling at the Iron City Brewery in Lawrenceville through November 21.  This play has been getting rave reviews so don’t miss out!

Lawrenceville Scavenger Hunt

Those crazy kids from Urban Hike like to wrap up the hiking season with an annual scavenger hunt.  This year the hunt heads to Lawrenceville.

Spend the afternoon hunting for clues and answering trivia questions with your friends.  Take funny photos and compete for awesome prizes while checking out one of Pittsburgh fine neighborhoods.

FREE Concert with Joe Grushecky and the House Rockers – 4th Annual Dormont Street Festival

Monday August 9 – Free Admission to Phipps

Admission to Phipps Conservatory is FREE on Monday, August 9, 2010 from 9:30am-5pm.   Free Admission day is made possible by the Buncher Family Foundation.

Its great to see free admission days like this – I know that admissions can add up for families and this is a great opportunity to head over to check out Phipps – you can stay for the day or just stop by and check out a few of the rooms.
