Monday August 9 – Free Admission to Phipps

Admission to Phipps Conservatory is FREE on Monday, August 9, 2010 from 9:30am-5pm.   Free Admission day is made possible by the Buncher Family Foundation.

Its great to see free admission days like this – I know that admissions can add up for families and this is a great opportunity to head over to check out Phipps – you can stay for the day or just stop by and check out a few of the rooms.

And this is a great opportunity to stop by and check out the Agave plant – which is still growing but they don’t expect it to last much longer.

Here is some more detail about the agave plant at Phipps

…estimated to be between 40 and 50 years old, has endured the elements, growing 33+ feet through the roof of our Desert Room since March. It has survived freezing temperatures, storms and whipping winds, which recently caused damage to its stalk. Against all odds, bandaged with duct tape and stabilized by a splint and ropes, the giant plant recently bloomed. Free Admission Day is an excellent opportunity to witness this very special plant, which will not survive much longer.

Phipps is fabulous! Yesterday, I went with two little boys – ages 2 and 5 – and we stayed for 4 hours! And they STILL weren't ready to leave. They love the Discovery Garden, the agave plant, and searching for gargoyles and Chuiluy sculptures amidst the plants. Highly recommend.
