Letterpress Love in Pittsburgh

I was recently talking to a friend and admiring his beautifully letterpress buisness cards – I know there are a few letterpress shops here in Pittsburgh too.

Shannon from War Admiral Press – designed the wedding invitations for our very own blogger Maya!  – check out the invitations here – Maya was thrilled with the finished invites and happy to use a local printer too.  There is even a Flickr group for Pittsburgh Letterpress – I think it is run by the folks who publish the zine Ker-Bloom which is one of the only letterpress zine’s around – check out Issue 74 which is all about Pittsburgh.

Perfect timing because January 30, 2010 is the Pittsburgh craft collective’s Letterpress Demo afternoon.  This is one event that I did not get to attend last year and I am very happy to see the events return.  Here is a nice write up of last years Letterpress demo from the blog Something Pretty.

Links Worth a Look – January 22nd

Here are some links/articles/blog posts that are worth a look:

  • Pittsburgh Magazine's Eat Street visits Pangea – We are happy to see a write up on Pangea as we were just wondering if this place was still open. Lovely spot in Shadyside that is in the space where Pasta Piatto used to be years ago.
  • 5 Place to Find Handmade in Pittsburgh – the blog Handmade in PA has a great post about 5 places to find handmade items – or make something handmade here in Pittsburgh – some are old favorites and some new finds too. (via the Pittsburgh Craft Collective)
  • Red Pop Shop on Etsy – Just learned about this nifty little online shop that is run by 3 Pittsburgh friends – a great selection on vintage housewares – glasses, mugs, plates, ash trays and more. Some handmade items too. Check out their $5 or less selections too.

I Made It and Handmade Arcade Gifts Ideas

Handmade Arcade (Pittsburgh)

A few weeks ago I had the great fortune to meet some of the folks who work at ModCloth, an online retailer of fabulous fashions that is based here in Pittsburgh.  One of the cool tools I learned about is Polyvore – which is a website that lets you “clip” your favorite items and group them into sets to share on your blog, Facebook and Twitter.   I have been having some fun creating sets of items for Spreadshirt so I thought I would do the same for IheartPGH too. (I have even set up an IheartPGH group on Polyvore here).

My first Polyvore set for IheartPGH is a round up of some items from vendors who were at the I Made It Market or Handmade Arcade.  (I wanted to add even more but for some reason – you can’t clip images from Etsy to Polyvore 🙁 ).

Here are just a few of the goodies that were available – click on each item to learn more about it and visit the website of the vendor. Most of the vendors are from Pittsburgh too!

Did you buy any handmade gifts? Who were your favorite vendors? Please share more links to Etsy shops in the comments.
