Soup & Art at Soup N’At on Sunday

Looking for something to do this weekend?  Our friends at Treading Art have put together another awesome list of things to do in Pittsburgh this weekend – Christmas Draft Invasion at Sharp Edge in McMurray, Deutschtown Pub Crawl, and much more – check out the whole Weekend Treadings list here.

The choice event for this week is Soup N’At on Sunday.

How it works – $10 gets you a meal and a ballot to vote on the best artist proposal of the night. We expect that some of our favorite local artists should be in attendance.

This is an important Save the Date post.  I say important because it is about an important cause and it is a fun event!

2013 Cookies and Cards Fundraiser

For the past 2 years, I’ve joined a great crew of Pittsburgh bloggers to help the Pittsburgh Nonprofit Community Human Services raise funds to provide holiday gifts and cheer for some of our fellow Pittsburgh residents who really wouldn’t have much during the holiday season.

2012 – A Huge Success

Last year, we set a lofty goal of raising $5000 in donations and gift cards to help CHS provide a little something for the folks they work with.  Thanks to the generous donations and kind hearts of Pittsburghers – we raised $8500 – which allowed CHS to provide something for over 400 people.

2013 – We need your help!

I’m setting the goal for 2013 at $10,000 and I’m going to need your help to get there.

I’m on my way to the planning meeting for the December event this evening and I am going to have an online fundraising page to share with you shortly.  You can read more about why I’ve been supportive of CHS here.

I hope that you will plan to attend this fun event – who doesn’t like to get together and eat holiday cookies – and that you will bring your friends along too.

If you would like to help in planning and promoting the December 4 event – we are always looking for help and donation of raffle prizes.  Please drop me an email (lindsay – @Iheartpgh.com) and I’ll keep you in the loop.

NaBloPoMo – Pittsburgh Bloggers Take the 30 Days, 30 Blog Posts Challenge

NaBloPoMo_November_largeEach November writers around the world participate in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) where participants try to write a novel in a month.  Not to be out done, the bloggers have jumped on the bandwagon with NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month).  The folks at BlogHer organize NaBloPoMo each month and provide a list of blogging prompts, participating bloggers and even some contests.  Over 2000 bloggers have signed up to participate in November 2013.

One of my fellow Pittsburgh bloggers posted about NaBloPoMo last week in the Pittsburgh Bloggers Facebook Group (yep – we’ve got an awesome Facebook group that is used for sharing links, answering questions and scheming up good things for Pittsburgh – if you are a blogger or would like to start blogging, you should join the group here.)

I’ve participated in previous NaBloPoMo’s before and I like the challenge, plus I’m eager to get back to writing blog posts for both IheartPGH and my other blogging project BlogLocal.  If you haven’t checked out BlogLocal – I’m working on building a community of local bloggers across the country.  Please take a look at the BlogLocal blog here, like BlogLocal on Facebook and follow @BlogLocally on Twitter.

NaBloPoMo PGH

NaBloPoMo_PGH_screenshotI thought it would be interesting to see what the Pittsburgh bloggers who are participating in NaBloPoMo November are writing about.  I’ve put together a Tumblr blog for Pittsburgh bloggers to share their NaBloPoMo posts for the month – http://nablopomopgh.tumblr.com.

There are a bunch of great Pittsburgh blogs who have stepped up to the NaBloPoMo challenge – you can check out the list here. And follow @NaBloPoMoPGH on twitter for updates.

Are you a Pittsburgh blogger who is blogging all month long? Leave a comment below and we’ll add you to the list!

A Souper Pitt-Starter: Warhol’s Soup Cans in the Nude

While this project wasn’t created by a Pittsburgher, it is certainly a very Pittsburgh project.  I came across this project on the Kickstarter tumblr blog last week.

The artist Lindsey Wholman is from Boulder, Colorado but she has a thing for Andy Warhol’s soup cans.  She has already met her fundraising goal but the video is worth a watch.
