I have recently had the opportunity to meet several new women entrepreneurs in Pittsburgh who are working on building some exciting companies.

I am looking for other women bloggers in Pittsburgh who would be interested in meeting to network and meet some of these entrepreneurs.  If this first event goes well, we are looking at making this a monthly event.

I am organizing an event next Monday or Tuesday before Thanksgiving.  If you a women, you have a blog and you would like to attend – click here to let us know what date and time works best for you.   (We’ll try to find a time that works for most people and we can plan a second event if needed.)

The folks at c-leveled, a consulting firm that works with small businesses and startups, has offered to host this meeting at their offices in Bloomfield. (Full disclosure – I work part-time for c-leveled).

“Cold Turkey” Screening at The Hollywood Theater – Thursday 11/21

cold-turkey-posterJust in time for the family fun of the holidays!  Cold Turkey is a film about families and Thanksgiving.  With an all star cast, including Peter Bogdanovich and Cheryl Hines, this looks like a promising film.

You can watch Cold Turkey online at Amazon and Google Play.  If you would like to catch this film on the big screen, Cold Turkey will be showing at The Hollywood Theater in Dormont this Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 7:30pm. Tickets are available online via Gathr.

A friend of mine sent me the preview to this film last week and I thought this was worth sharing.  Here is your opportunity to check out a Thanksgiving film a week before Turkey day and an excuse to visit one of Pittsburgh’s independent movie theaters.  (Check out the IheartPGH guide to independent movie theaters in Pittsburgh here).

Looking for more holiday movies on the big screen? The Hollywood Theater in Dormont will be screening Planes, Trains and Automobiles and It’s a Wonderful Life this weekend – check out the November schedule here.

The Sprout Fund (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

The Sprout Fund is a Pittsburgh non-profit that has been giving out grants to project big and small that make this city a better place to live.  This year the Sprout Fund has put together a special round of grants for film and video projects.

On Monday, November 25, the public is invited to watch the trailers and vote for their favorites. Afterwards you will have a chance to vote for your favorites.  Voting will be factored into the decision of which projects receive funding from the Sprout Fund.  This event is open to the public and free to attend.

The Ravens and a Duck

Say hello to our newest blogger Eric – his first post is about the people you meet at Steelers games and that big yellow duck. I’d like to include more essays about Pittsburgh here on the blog.  Let us know what you think of this post in the comments! – Lindsay

If there’s anything that we all know and love, it’s a good sports rivalry. Be it our reputable distaste for anything orange and black, our disdain for the color purple, or even my purposeful exclusion of the names of these cities and teams in this anecdote.

I had the fortune of attending the Steelers game in which they played host to the Baltimore Ravens. On those crisp autumn evenings when droves of people funnel into the stadium, one by one, recalling the last time they had attended a rivalry match such as this. My memory always goes back to my first Steelers/Ravens clash, back in December 2009, when the Steelers won on a Jeff Reed kick, a dropped Derek Mason touchdown, and a lot of penalty help to keep their playoff hopes alive. This day’s game found us in dire straits as well, entering the game losing four of our first five games and not really looking very good during any part of it. Continue reading
