The PG is looking for your t-shirt stories

I saw this little post on the website for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette today. I thought this might be of interest to some of our blog readers. I am not sure if they are only looking for Pittsburgh stories or for stories from all over. I think I might submit my story about myIheartPGH t-shirt. I am looking forward to reading this article when it comes out.

Seeking Your Help: Your favorite T-shirt
Wednesday, January 17, 2007
Every favorite T-shirt usually comes a with good story on why it’s so special to you. Maybe you were wearing it when you met your future spouse. Or you got it at the best concert you ever attended. Or it’s from a special reunion. No matter how old or how tattered, you’ll never give it away. We’d like to hear your stories about your favorite T-shirts. Please send your reflections to Virginia Linn at vlinn@post-gazette.com. Include your name, home town and daytime phone number.

I received this in an email from the folks at VisitPittsburgh.  It is pretty cool that Pittsburgh ranked 3rd in AmericanStyle Magazines top Arts Cities.

Help Pittsburgh Be Recognized as TOPS IN THE ARTS!

Think Pittsburgh is a contender in the world of art? VisitPittsburgh thinks so and AmericanStyle magazine wants to hear from you.

The monthly arts magazine has opened its official balloting process to identify the Top 25 Arts Cities in the United States . In 2006, Pittsburgh ranked third in the magazine’s 9th annual Top 25 Arts Destinations Readers’ Poll. (Pittsburgh has appeared four times since the poll’s inception.)

If you agree that Pittsburgh is indeed among the Top 25 Arts Destinations (this year listed by market size-Pittsburgh is in the mid-tier group), we encourage you to go to www.AmericanStyle.com and cast your vote by clicking to the right side of the home page on the red, white and blue TOP 25 ARTS DESTINATIONS.

You can choose additional markets too but, remember, a vote for them works against your vote for Pittsburgh !

Be prepared to state why you think Pittsburgh is a top arts destination.

Hurry! All Ballots received now will be entered to win a $500 airline travel certificate from AmericanStyle.

Forward this to your friends and family and help recognize Pittsburgh as Tops in the Arts!

Does anyone know where I can find an old working laptop?

Ever since I heard a friend tell me about how her family makes gifts for each other each Christmas I have been bugging my family to adopt this fun holiday tradition.  My entire family has vetoed this idea but I am on a quest to make most of the gifts this holiday season.  One of my gift ideas requires me to take apart an old, but working laptop.  I cannot tell you what I am going to make because I know the gift recipient reads this blog.

So after visiting the Goodwill Computer Shop and calling the computer recycling place.  No luck.  I ventured into the basement at my mom’s house to dig out my old trusty Compaq Laptop where half of the keys don’t work (you don’t really need a space bar to communicate effectively).  No luck.  My mom “thinks” she might have given it to Construction Junction.

So now I am on a mission to create this project.  It is no longer about the gift, which I would still like to complete by Sunday, it is about finding an old working laptop.  I know there have to be some, somewhere in this city,  So if anyone has any ideas on where I could locate one of these laptops, please share.  It can be as old as Windows 98, the battery doesn’t have to work.  One of those old Apple clam shells would be great.  I don’t have much money, looking to spend less than $30.  But I do have IheartPGH.com t-shirts for whomever can help me locate one of these.

Name that tank

In just 3 hours the auction will end.  Our friends at East End Brewing are about to purchase a brand new tank for brewing more beer.  (I have a major affinity for stainless steel tanks, as I used to work for an auctioneer that specialized in selling dairy processing equipment, tanks, cheese vats, pumps – you name it, i helped to sell them in auctions in exotic places like Labelle, Florida, Dodge, Nebraska, or Castroville (artichoke Capital of the world), Calilfornia.  In fact we had a few brewers show up some of the auctions to buy tanks for their breweries.)

East End Brewing is auctioning off the naming rights for the new tank.

WHAT YOU GET:
The winning bidder will have their name, or the name of their choosing, dramatically emblazoned on the side of this tank, so that all can be reminded of your devotion to a craft we at East End Brewing find so near and dear to us.  You can make your bid for yourself, for a friend, chip in as a group, or even do it on behalf of an organization you find near and dear – anything goes!  Also, to make this a bit more fun, there’s no reserve on this auction.  This means that if you’re quick, you can be the LEAD BIDDER for at least a while, without committing more than a couple bucks!

And if YOU are the person who steps up and wins this thing, the name on the tank can be just about anything you want.  Name it after your favorite pet, your favorite song, your favorite East End Beer, your favorite fiancée, or even your favorite brewer – though I’m not holding my breath on that last one…The only requirement is that we keep it clean.  After all, people bring their kids in here each week, so I’ll reserve the right to decline anything I think is really out of line – but I’m not a prude.  I’ll work with you.

It is a beautiful dome top tank (I told you I liked equipment).  So maybe you should bid on this tank and name it after IheartPGH.com?
