“Art is everything my parents told me not to do” (Post-It Note Wisdom from Art All Night)

At this years Art All Night there was a giant time line and vistors were asked to add their Art All Night memories to the board.

Art All Night Timeline

While there were lots of interesting memories stuck on to the board, this post-it note jumped out at me.  In case you can’t read the post-it…

  • Green Note: “Art is everything my parents told me not to do”
  • Grey Note: “SAME HERE! It’s a damned shame I listened to them.  I’m 56 now and finally I’m enjoying art + LIFE”

Yinztagram - Incline over Seattle

Yinztagram by @HollzinSeattle

If you follow @IheartPGH on twitter – you know that I am a devoted Blackberry user.  I am constantly being asked why I use such a device when I could just “get an iphone.”   I am loyal to the Blackberry. Until this week – something happened – that may be the reason I need to get an iphone – it is for the sake of all things Pittsburgh.

Meet the app that may make me break up with my Blackberry (I might say that my relationship has been one of the longest and best of my life) – Yinztagram.

Yinztagram is a free iPhone app that allows you to add some Pittsburgh to any photo.   You know how Pittsburgher’s believe that everything tastes better with fries on top?  Well some smart folks realized that all photos look better with a Primanti’s sandwich or Rick Seback added to the image.

You can read more about the Pittsburgh elements of the app here.

Check out some of these Yinztagrams and what people are saying about the app…

Get Into the Pittsburgh Gigapanorama

On Thursday, September 23 there will be a photo shoot for the 2nd Pittsburgh Gigapanorama – you are invited to participate.  The details for Thursday are available here.  For the whole story about the project keep reading.

Gigapana-What? I promise this is not a scary disease or some fancy name for bed bug infestation – a gigopanorama is a giant panoramic photo.  In most basic terms – lots of digital photos are stitched together to create a large panoramic photo. You can learn more about these photos and the technology behind the giga pan photos at Gigapan.orgCarnegie Mellon and Pittsburgh based DeepLocal are key partners in this project.  Gigapan.org also has a huge gallery of other amazing photos to check out.

The First Pittsburgh Gigapanorama was created in October, 2009 from the roof of the US steel building.  You can check out the photo here. The GigaPan.org website lets you navigate and zoom in on different parts of the photo.  There is also an actual print out of this photo that has been displayed around the city – I had a chance to see it earlier this summer at the Sprout Fund Summer Social.  It is a HUGE banner with amazing detail of the city. Last Monday – some of Pittsburgh biggest t-shirt fans gathered at OTB Cafe to celebrate International T-shirt Day 2010 – while this day was in celebration of all t-shirts – it was amazing to see that everyone showed up in their finest Pittsburgh t-shirts.  And we had an amazing collection of Pittsburgh t-shirts that we raffled off.

Here are some of the shirts that Commonwealth Press offers – you can buy these shirts at their shop on Carson Street or online at CompressMerch.com
