Pittsburgh Bean Bag Toss Tournament – McKeesport

Lindsay’s Note: I have edited the title from Cornhole to Bean Bag Toss tournament. Also – I know that McKeesport isn’t in Pittsburgh but, bean bag toss is awesome and I think that everyone should make the trip to McKeesport for this event. I am still looking for a team mate if anyone wants to play on Sunday.

Join us on Sunday, January 27, 2008 for a Cornhole Tournament in McKeesport at The Palisades. Sign in and practice begins at 11 AM and the tournament starts at Noon. There is a $40 per team entry fee, which the prize money will be based on the number of entries. If 30 teams enter, there will be $1,000 in prize money! Continue reading

Scrabble Clubs

Over the holidays I started playing Scrablulous on Facebook. I love it – I play every day. I am even thinking of organizing a Scrabulous tournament.

Since the weather is just gross outside I think that Scrabble is a great inside activity and luckily there are 2 Scrabble clubs in the Pittsburgh area.

The Pittsburgh Scrabble® Club (National Scrabble® Association Club #352) meets in Squirrel hill, usually on Wednesday – you will have to check with the organizers for game locations.

The South Hills Scrabble Club, also recognized by the National Scrabble Association, meets from 1 to 3 p.m. every Saturday at the Mount Lebanon Public Library, 16 Castle Shannon Boulevard, near Washington Road.

New Guild Studio’s Holiday Open House

I was already going to post about this event because anything that is happening in Braddock is usually worth a visit. So when I received this email from the Deputy Mayor of Braddock I knew it would be worth a look. A chance to do some holiday shopping in Braddock (and not the mall) in another plus.
I then looked up the website for New Guild Studios – www.newguildstudio.com
New Guild Studio is definitly worth a visit – they specialize in religious art – restoration or construction of some large scale pieces.

I have always wondered who works on these types of things, especially after a visit to St. Nicholas Church – if you haven’t stopped in there yet – the murals are AMAZING.

Going the Creative Distance

My friend and co-worker Jesse runs this neat little place in Bellvue called The Creative Treehouse.   This weekend the Creative Treehouse is hosting their second 24 hour Creative Marathon this weekend.  Beginning Friday, September 28th at 8pm artists have 24 hours to create a piece of art.  This years theme is “lost and found.”  On Saturday at 8pm the Creative Treehouse will open for a gallery show of the art work, some tasty food and live music.  From amateurs to professionals, all artists are invited to participate, registration is free.
