Redd Up Thread Up is BACK!

In the Fall of 2010, Redd Up Thread Up raised nearly $300 for the Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh. The event is back again for a warmer weather clothing swap and 100% of the proceeds will benefit East End Cooperative Ministries.

Pull out those too small (or too big) sundresses, shorts, sweaters, pants, jeans, tops, t-shirts, and whatever else you might find in your closet (that’s in decent enough condition for someone else) and bring your donations down to 120 Federal Street (Old Firewaters Pub across from PNC Park) Wednesday, Thursday or Friday this week from 6:00-9:00 p.m. then come back on Saturday between 12:00 – 6:00 p.m. to “shop” for new additions to your closet!

Tote bags will be available to purchase at the event and you can stuff in as many pieces as you can for $10 ($5 if you donate at least one bag of clothing). Everyone is welcome!!

Redd Up Thread Up is being held in partnership with The Mattress Factory and The Saxifrage School with event assistance by The Cotton Factory and others.

The North Shore will be bustling all week with Pirates games and foot traffic from the Arts Festival, so be sure to stop down!

Check out the event website for more information.

Helping Local Organizations Spread the Word, Creatively

There are SO many wonderful organizations in Pittsburgh and spreading awareness about a cause, service or fundraising effort can be difficult amidst the flood of Facebook event invites, email campaigns, Twitter notifications and blog feeds we receive every day.

To help non-profit organizations and businesses navigate the world of new media, a pair of local businessmen have combined their experience in video, marketing, media and communications to form 321Blink, an Aspinwall-based creative marketing agency. Revolving fresh content is one of the most important aspects in new media marketing and 321Blink offers a very affordable way for businesses and organizations to create dynamic content in the form of video.

What sets 321Blink apart is The Show. Set to launch in June, 321Blink The Show, is a weekly half hour television program featuring two-minute videos about local businesses and non-profit organizations.

Businesses such as Berger & Green will be featured along with community organizations such as the Pittsburgh Gospel Choir and non-profits like Gilda’s Club. These participants will go beyond their normal marketing message with an appeal to their commitment and contribution to the Greater Pittsburgh community. 321Blink realizes budget concerns yet honors the necessity to get the word out about important causes – The Show will donate up to 26 episodes a year to local non-profit organizations.

Regarding the opportunity for non-profits, Business Partner Tripp Clarke noted, “We would love to discuss the mission and goals of a non-profit and then drive the viewer to their website or Facebook page to get updates on upcoming events or time-specific needs of the organization.”

The Show will have an interview-style feel with special guest hosts including Brenda Waters and “Blinks” (short show identification blurbs) from local personalities like Bill Deasy and Mr. McFeely. In addition to distribution across several social media platforms, 321Blink The Show will be carried on more than a half dozen television channels including WPGH Fox 53, PCNC and The CW.

Redd Up Thread Up

The first frost warning of the season has been issued for this evening and I bet you’ve already pulled out a few sweaters from those storage containers to prepare.

While you’re lamenting the loss of those hot days and awful sunburns of summer 2010, you might come across some sweaters or jeans that just don’t fit anymore or perhaps that cute wool skirt doesn’t look as cute as it did last year. Be sure to save those items for the Redd Up Thread Up, a community clothing swap to benefit the Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh. Continue reading

Come and Get it! Pittsburgh Public Market Opens for Business

Finally.

The Pittsburgh Public Market is open for business.

I was able to sneak in during the PPM’s preview weekend and I was blown away by the mix of scents, flavors, tastes, friendly faces, and sense of community the PPM brings to people who visit.

Located at the Pittsburgh Produce Terminal on Smallman Street parking might be hard to find, but it’s more than worth it.
