The Wells Foundation is a Columbus-based private family foundation created by Dana and Tony Wells. Pursuant to its mission, the foundation has a history of investing into social enterprises, developing new social innovation models, and advising local nonprofit organizations that are considering social enterprise since 2001. Tony is one of the most creative, and sought-after national speakers on the topic of Social Impact Investing, sharing his own stories, successes and lessons learned after taking the risk to make nearly ALL of his foundation’s endowment available for impact in the nonprofit sector.
Why should I attend?
‘Social enterprise’, ‘sustainability’, and ‘impact’ are probably the three most prominent buzz words in the nonprofit sector today. But have you heard about ‘social impact investing’?
For years, nonprofits have been vying for the same grant dollars from foundations year after year. These represent about 5% of the assets of most foundations. But what about the rest? Some foundations today are shifting from a model where 95% of their assets are endowed, to a model where that 95% becomes available for nonprofits in the community as social impact investing – and it represents a multi-billion dollar funding opportunity for those who know about it.
This presentation will use several innovative examples to provide an overview of social impact investing. It will focus on how nonprofits, funders and other community stakeholders can work together using this unique source of funding to expand their impact, stabilize operations, and pursue new social enterprise initiatives.
