(Things to do while figuring out what to do with all that left over Joe-mentum.)
Friday, August 11
Posion/Cinderella, 7:30 p.m., PG Pavilion
Really, there’s not enough Aqua Net in the world to do this show justice… But try, I will. It’s a homecoming of sorts for Poison frontman Bret Michaels (nee Bret Michael Sychak), as the Butler native headlines a show of two HUGE 80s hair metal bands. Cinderella got short-changed by a lot of folks, but they’re musically one of the better bands in the whole genre (or “zhon-durr” as a former coworker of mine used to say, that always went over well in client meetings, right up there with using “irregardless” without a trace of irony). The heat index out in Burgettstown is going to jump by about 15 degrees from the Bic lighters held aloft when Poison busts out “Every Rose”, so make sure you keep hydrated. Remember, though – Every bad boy’s got a soft side, at least accoring to the commercial for “Metal Ballads” or whatever that compilation disc was called, so don’t get all judgmental if the guy next to you in his mid-30s tears up, just a little, of course… Just a little…
Pittsburgh 50 Finest Event, 6:00 p.m. Level, In Da Strip
For whatever reason, the folks over at 50 Finest keep overlooking the immeasurable contribution that Git Aht makes to Pittsburgh. I mean, dozens of people read this thing, right? And they all rely on this pile of useless information every week. Well, whatever, maybe next year… This is our “Drinking For A Cause” event for the weekend, as all proceeds benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Drinking for a cause is always A Good Thingâ„¢, and doing so at Level means you can lay down on the beds, just for a minute, no, really, I’m ok, maybe a water please, no ice. Thanks sweetheart, you’re the best. I mean that. What are you doing tomorrow, maybe we can go catch a flick dahn waterfront or something?

Urban Hike – Oakmont, 10:00 a.m., Oakmont
Lindsay covered this yesterday, but the need to point this out is important, and saves me from writing a whole item! You think it’s easy getting up early every Friday and ripping off other sources for this information? Well, it’s not. Well, it is. Ok, whichever. The Urban Hikers take on Oakmont and they promise “a great view of the river, walk through some woods with a creepy name, hear about a mysterious bookshop, and see a frighteningly fascinating theater!” which sounds a little better suited to, say, October but it’ll be cold then. I’d rather walk in the warm. With a beer. And the sisters of the Tau Gamma sorority. Who would give me neck rubs as we walk, just out of the goodness of their hearts, ’cause they’re like that. God bless ’em, they’re good people.
Shadyside… The Art Festival On Walnut, 10:00 a.m., Shadyside (Duh!)
Not really sure why the ellipsis is there, but it’s art, right, so just, y’know… go with it. They’re promising… $15 million worth of art for sale, but that doesn’t mean you have to buy all of it. Where… ya gonna put it anyway, really? The… weather’s supposed to be good, so… head up there after your walk in… Oakmont. Y’know… all of the… ellipses kinda makes it sound like you’re doing a… Christopher Walken impression… Hah!… I got a fevah… and the only prescription… is more cowbell! And an… Arts festival on… Walnut.
Social & Ballroom Dance, 7:00 p.m., School House Yoga, Lawrenceville
Git yo cha-cha on in Larryville. Free lesson with admission, light refreshments are offered.
Sunday, August 13
Flick: Yours, Mine And Ours, Duskish, Flagstaff Hill
I dunno if this is the original, which was a charming movie with the great Henry Fonda and the amazing Lucille Ball (and a young Tim Matheson, way before he became Otter.) or the new one with… Umm… I dunno, two mostly forgettable people in a movie calculated to make money because everybody loves a good family comedy, which they probably screwed up anyway by going for the cheap, naked sentimentality than anything #@!%ing honest or genuine or from the heart and the gut AND WHY DON’T THEY JUST TRY TO DO SOMETHING ORIGINAL RATHER THAN RECYCLING THE SAME PABLUM BECAUSE IT TESTS WELL IN FOCUS #@!%ING GROUPS?!? GAH!!!!
Ah, well, it’s free, so there’s that. Have a good weekend.
