It would be easy to drive past this place unless you have tried frozen custard before you might think this is just another ice cream stand. Glen’s is a bit of a drive, but it is worth it. I really don’t know how frozen custard differs from ice cream, but it is amazing. They always have vanilla and chocolate and one other flavor – today it is banana. There is also a mini golf course right behind the shop. Just take Freeport road out to cheswick. Glen’s is right on Freeport road.
As I understand it, frozen custard has a higher butterfat content, must include eggs and is not quite as cold as ice cream, hence the softer consistency. Glen's is fabulous; I've only recently discovered it myself but am absolutely hooked.
My grandparents live in New Kensington and to get from our house to theirs we had to drive past Glen's. It's been a weekly stop for us (during the season) for the last 30 years. Incredible custard.
Thanks for posting about it. Now I can't wait for Grandma's cooking on Sunday and a chocolate Glen's on the way home. MMMMMMM!
I grew up in New Kensington and GLEN's has been a sumer craving for a lifetime! Thanks for spreading the love to the smaller outskirts of "Pittsburgh". They are a great family ran business and the custard is simply FANTASTIC!
