Speaking of Pamela’s, Obama picks Pamela’s Diner and the Steelers

I was just sitting here talking with a friend who had just returned from Pamela’s for lunch about how the banana chocolate chip pancakes are amazing.  Then during the end of the White House Daily Briefing which was running on CNN one of the reporters asked White House Press secretary who President Obama will support in the super bowl.  Robert Gibbs replied that the best breakfast they had on the campaign was at a place in Pittsburgh that they visited with Dan Rooney.  You can’t here Gibbs say Pamela’s but a quick google search brings up this photo of the Obamas and Dan Rooney at the Pamela’s in the Strip District.

I have to agree – Pamela’s is pretty amazing.  As we were discussing the amazing hot cakpamelashotcakes.jpges – I was remembering how my friends from Brooklyn who came to check out Pittsburgh last March described the chocolate-chip banana hotcakes – Mark took a bite and pointed at the plate “that is something special.”  I was visiting a good Pittsburgh friend in Brooklyn last weekend and we had a lovely brunch at Relish.  The brunch was good and Relish is a great place in a remodeled diner – but if you want an omelet or hotcakes I think Pamela’s is the best. The photo to the right is my friend from Brooklyn eating Pamela’s hotcakes. Continue reading

The Steel City is Ready for the Super Bowl

The Steel City is Ready for the Super Bowl, originally uploaded by IheartPGH.This is a great picture. The statue outside of the City County Building on Grant Street is ready for the Super Bowl.I am not able to make it downtown to the cage the cards rally today but one of the IheartPGH field reporters sent this picture to me. Have a great picture of Steelers fans or Steelers gear – send them to me info@iheartpgh.com or post to the IheartPGH Flickr group – http://www.flickr.com/groups/iheartpgh/

School of Steelers Rock – Steelers Songs and Video

Strawberry flavored Pop RocksImage via Wikipedia

I know that this video has been posted all over the web and these kids have been covered by the Post-Gazette but I wanted to post the video here in case you haven’t seen it yet.

The Pop Rocks are a group of middle school kids who formed a group while attending a summer music camp at The Davis School of Guitar Performance which is located in Harmony, Butler County.  If you visit Harmony stop in and say hi to the folks who run the Bottlebrush Gallery located in downtown Historic Harmony.

These kids have a great lyrics and performance all set to the tune of Pat Benetar‘s Heartbreaker.

You can read the lyrics to the song here at Steelers Depot.  Looking for more Steelers songs?  Check out this post at Steezbros.  Even Madisonian.net, a blog by Pitt Law professor Mike Madison takes a look at the copyright around this song.

It is really interesting to see all of the Steelers song video’s on YouTube.  Just 3 years ago when Steeler’s songs we only had lyrics to share. Continue reading

Be a Fan of Steeler Baby on Facebook, Pittsburgh Fire Department and What to Do If Your Pipe Bursts

steelerbabyImage by jonbro via FlickrWell I am a little behind in celebrating Steelers fever here because I returned home on Saturday night to an indoor waterfall. 2 little cracks in a copper pipe less than a half inch can cause a lot of water to come through the ceiling.

I want to post a few things about the frozen pipe situation because one of the first things I did after rescuing the computer from the rushing water was to google “pipe burst” and “pittsburgh emergency plumbers” and the results weren’t helpful.

So after an hour of calling 24 hour plumbers in the yellow pages to come shut off the water – yes we tried to shut it off but the handle was broken – I finally asked the answering service lady what to do. (I secretly think she is the same lady that answers the phone for every plumber in the phone book and she was getting a real kick out of my return calls). She said call the fire department. So after another plumber telling me he could come over after he went to church (it was now 2am) and I didn’t think I should let this water fall continue for another 10 hours. I called the Pittsburgh Fire Department – Thank You, Thank You, THANK YOU to the 4 firemen who arrived with in minutes to shut of the water and make sure the house wouldn’t burn down (the water was coming through the light fixtures). They were even kind enough to sing happy birthday to me before they left.

I also want to thank Joe at Preferred Restoration who kindly talked me through what you should do after you get the water shut off and how to minimize damage (and is possibly the only person in the yellow pages that actually offers 24 hours response). Joe had a crew at the house by 10 am and was able to get a plumber there by 11am. Within a few hours the water was gone and both the first floor and basement have super humidifiers and 10 super turbo fans running. Out with the water – in with the wind tunnel.

If you have a great plumber to recommend – please share in the comments below. If you are a plumber that likes to answer late night calls – you should let us know that too.

So I had to take a nap before the Steelers game! I am glad that Pittsburgh is going to the Super Bowl because there are alot of Steelers things I didn’t get to post about before the game. Starting with Steeler Baby. We have been a fan of Steeler Baby since 2006 (see the original post here). You should be a fan of Steeler Baby on Facebook too – they currently have 893 fans – I think we can easily help them get to 1000. You can even get a Steeler Baby countdown widget for you blog.
