One of the hidden gems of summer in Pittsburgh for those who are Italian or who want to be Italian is the annual Feast of Saint Anthony Festival, which is happening this weekend in the Strip District. Follow the Pittsburgh Feast of St. Anthony Facebook page for more details.
I just spoke with one of the organizers for the annual Feast of Saint Anthony Festival. They are raffling off two tickets to the Stanley Cup Game 5 here in Pittsburgh on Thursday, June 9. They have sold less than 50 raffle tickets, so your odds of winning 2 seats to the hockey game are pretty good. All proceeds from the hockey ticket raffle benefit the annual Feast of Stain Anthony Festival, a 501c3 organization that plans the annual festival and works to promote Italian culture in Pittsburgh.
Raffle tickets are $50 and can be purchased online here. Winner will be selected on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 1pm.
Enter to win (2) tickets to the Penguins June 9th NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Game (5) vs the San Jose Sharks. Seats are Section 105, Row Q- they are amazing seats in the corner of the side where the Pens shoot twice.
Winner will be determined by a Parish Priest and retired Federal Judge picking a random winner (recorded on video to be made available to all entrants) at 1 pm on 6/9. Corresponding entry will win (2) tickets to that night’s playoff game. We will immediately email the winner to to get you the tickets before that night’s game.

I don’t know if you saw this story in the news last week or not – last Wednesday a cyclist was violently attacked by a driver on the South Side. Please take a moment to read the story in the Post-Gazette here – they have released a description of the driver who has still not been identified.
The cyclist, Colin Albirght, has been in the hospital but he will be okay. I have seen some photos of his injuries, I don’t think it is appropriate to share those with out talking with him first – but shocking is not strong enough of a word to describe the photos.
Some friends of the cyclist are organizing a raffle and event to raise some money to help with expenses and recovery. This is where Pittsburgh is awesome – already numerous businesses and organizations have donated raffle prizes.
This is an opportunity to not only support Colin but to support the cycling community in Pittsburgh. Bikes are a good thing for Pittsburgh – less people in cars is a good thing for Pittsburgh. And the cycling community here has come together to do really good things for others in Pittsburgh – if you aren’t familiar with groups like Bike Pittsburgh, Free Ride, Flock of Cycles – please visit their websites and learn more about them. I also just learned about the Positive Spin program from the MGR Foundation that is working to provide city youth with cycling mentors.

Long time readers of IheartPGH know how much we <3 the Steel City Big Pour. The Big Pour is beer festival/annual fundraiser for Contruction Junction. We didn’t even blog about this years event because the tickets sold out so quickly – a testament to the popularity of this event. Not only does the Big Pour give one a chance to support a great organization like Construction Junction while drinking beer, but it is a very well organized event. We know there is a hard working crew of dedicated volunteers who work year round to make sure this event is a huge success.
One of those volunteers is Dave Lagnese – not only is he a super supporter of the Big Pour but he also volunteers his time to make the Farmers Market Cooperative of East Liberty a success. He is responsible for bringing the Kew Park Coffee Bar to the Farmers Market and does a ton of work to promote the Farmers Market as well.
If you are looking to get your hands on some tickets for the 2011 Big Pour – Stop by the Kew Park Coffee Bar at the East Liberty Farmers Market (it is the building across the street from the Home Depot) on Saturday, September 3 between 7 and Noon. There will be a raffle and an auction for a pair of Big Pour tickets.
