I was getting a little worried that Pittsburgh had more Groundhog Day celebrations than Mardi Gras celebrations. Penn Brewery to the rescue. I was lucky enough to visit a fellow Pittsburgher in New Orleans for Mardi Gras a few years ago, before the flooding. It was definitely the biggest party I have ever attended. Mardi Gras, like Groundhog Day are holidays that need to be celebrated. So head on over to Penn Brewery for bead, beer and good music. I love the Boilermaker Jazz Band (check out the picture of the band performing in New Orleans) and I can only say good things about Dixie Doc and the Pittsburgh Dixieland All-stars. Continue reading

“We hope to be a positive part of the community and provide a place for neighbors to meet, chat, and relax. We hope to make wholesome food and quality coffee, teas, and juices available to our community and strive to obtain as many local, organic, natural, and/or fairly traded ingredients and products as possible. We aren’t trying to for anything too fancy or complicated. We are just ordinary folks, who have never done this before figuring it out as we go along and appreciate the support of our neighbors.”
Hoi Polloi opened last week and they have fresh juices, smoothies, and a small vegetarian menu. Check’em out!
Women Given their Due in the City of Champions
Come support Pittsburgh’s female athletes!
Women in Pittsburgh can do more for sports than root for the Steelers – just ask any of the 25 trailblazing honorees that will be celebrated by the Women and Girls Foundation (WGF) at their event on October 13, 2007 in honor of women in sports. The event, called Women in Sports: Leveling the Playing Field, will celebrate 25 Pittsburgh women for their contributions to the world of sports. Pittsburgh Whiskey Festival Nov. 2
I have just recovered from the Steel City Big Pour (which was an excellent event) to find this info in my email, I know it is a few weeks away but this looks like a great event for whiskey lovers
The spirit of the American Whiskey Trail continues with the 2007 Pittsburgh Whiskey Festival, Pittsburgh’s first large-scale whiskey and premium spirits tasting event, to take place Friday evening, November 2, 2007 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the West Club Lounge at Heinz Field.
The 2007 Pittsburgh Whiskey Festival will attract and engage both “whiskey” and “whisky” enthusiasts alike. The festival will feature more than 60 premier distilled spirits producers and will present a wide variety of the finest Scottish, American, Canadian and Irish whiskies, including single malts and bourbons. Premium tequila, rum, gin, vodka and cognac will also be presented for tasting. The fest, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, will include a buffet and a silent auction.Tickets to the Pittsburgh Whiskey Festival are $85 in advance and $95 at the door. Tickets are now available for advance purchase online at www.pittsburghwhiskeyfestival.com, along with additional event information.
Piper’s Pub also has some information about the event on their website (which is a great website).
This event is organized by the folks at Pittsburgh Wine Festival.
Pop Goes Pittsburgh
Meet people that make Pittsburgh Pop. PopCityMedia has been spreading the good word about Pittsburgh every Wednesday morning, with a bright colorful email filled with news and pictures of Pittsburgh lovers. I really look forward to their emails. The writers at PopCity have done a great job of writing about all sorts of local things and the photography is beautiful.
This Monday they are going live, with their first event.  This is a gathering of movers and shakers to discuss how to move Pittsburgh to the next level. I like that this panel is not the usual suspects on community development. This panel is a great line up of some people that are doing amazing things in and for Pittsburgh. Plus there will be some refreshments and time for networking.
