Very Important Info – Happy Hours in Pittsburgh

MartiniImage by ginsnob via FlickrThe kind souls who write the e-newsletter for the Big Burrito group included this handy list of Happy Hours in their last email (as well party with Chef Bill Fuller). I thought it would be wise to republish this list here for future reference.  Where else do you go for happy hour?  Please leave a comment below or send an email so we can keep adding to this list.

  • Casbah, 5 pm to 7 pm
    • Visit our comfortable lounge or bar for a wide selection of cocktails and wines for just $6. Plus, $1 off all beers by the bottle.
  • Eleven, 4 pm to 6 pm
    • Eleven is rolling out a brand new, romance-centric special to warm up the cold city evenings. Our Martini + Oyster Happy Hour has three $6 items: Martinis, 1/2 dozen oysters on the half shell, and several wines by the glass.
  • Kaya, 5 pm to 7 pm
    • One of the city’s happiest! Kaya keeps it delightfully simple with half off all* single serving drinks. Beers, wines, tropical drinks, cocktails, you name it. Great with a couple tropas. *There are a few odd exceptions, including perilously strong Belgium beers.
  • Mad Mex, Times vary by location. See madmex.com for all the juicy details.
    • The stuff of legends and myriad accolades! Half off wings, 12 & 16 oz margaritas and our dazzlingly wide selection of drafts. Plus, $7 Big Azz Margaritas!
  • Soba,  5 pm to 7 pm
    • Pull a cozy chair up to the Soba lounge fireplace and warm your spirit with $6 house cocktails and select wines.

You will go out for dinner on Sunday – 3rd Annual Big Bennefit

You don’t really want to cook dinner on Sunday, you should gather your family and friends and head to your favorite Big Burrito establishment on Sunday, October 12, 2008 for the Big Benefit.  100% of all food sales on Sunday will go to support the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.  I have long been a fan of Mad Mex which is still probably my most favorite place to dine in Pittsburgh.  I have had the wonderful opportunity to get to know some of the good folks, (check out chef Bill Fuller’s blog here) at Big Burrito and I am an even bigger fan.  The Big Burrito folks are true Pittsburgh lovers and they give generously to support Pittsburgh causes.

100% of all food sales from this night will go to local hunger relief organizations.

Our Pittsburgh restaurants will benefit the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. The GPCFB collects and distributes food via a 350+ member network throughout southwestern Pennsylvania, ranging from soup kitchens and food pantries to emergency and disaster related agencies.

Here is a list of Big Burrito establishments as well as some reviews from other bloggers:

What is your favorite Restaraunt

WQED has a poll on their websites for the best restaurants in Pittsburgh.  This is your chance to vote for what you think are the best restaraunts in town.  Click here to cast your votes – you get to enter anything you want, no check boxes here.  This is a great way to help support some of your favorite local businesses.  I have no idea why they need categories for best chain – so I suggest you skip that one.  This list is also missing a category for coffee shop – which I think is an important thing to recognize.  Here are some of my answers:

  • AMERICAN: Cappy’s – I love the pretzel sticks
  • BARGAIN: The Pretzel Shop
  • CONTINENTAL: Does anyone actually still use this term?
  • DOWNTOWN LUNCH: Franktuary – Hot dogs, fancy potato chips, wifi, awesome.
  • MEXICAN: MadMex – because they celebrate important holidays like ground hog day and leap year.
  • MICROBREWERY: East End Brewing – while this is a brewery not a restaraunt, they definitly do amazing things with beer.
  • OUTDOOR DINING: Harris Grill – Definitely the best patio – letting you draw with chalk was an added bonus
  • POST-THEATER DINING: Palate – Pittsburgh is very lucky to have this place
  • PRE-THEATER DINING: Palate – trust me, its tasty
  • SPORTS BAR: The Sharp Edge – Sports with out being too crazy (and its smoke free!)
  • BEST OVERALL: The Union Project Cafe – I give this the best because this place is all around awesome – amazing food, wonderful people, great cause, great new chef.
