This Weekend in Pgh – German Traditions, A Secret Pinball Clubhouse, Historic Murals

Happy Friday – here is a list of the events we discussed on WDVE this morning.  With Halloween and Election Day behind us we are officially in the holiday season.  Our first, of what is sure to be many holiday events is the Historic Harmony German Christmas Market.

Thanks to the DVE Morning Show for letting us share a few events around town this weekend.  You can hear our segment most Friday mornings at 6:45 am.

Traditional German Sauerkraut Supper

Jazz and Poetry at Bottlebrush Gallery – Friday, March 19

bottlebrushWhile I know we mostly blog about Pittsburgh things – we are also happy to support some of the great communities that are with in a reasonable drive of Pittsburgh.  The Bottlebrush Gallery is one of those places.  Located in historic Harmony, Pa – which is about a 20 minute drive north of Pittsburgh on 79N.  The founders of Bottlebrush Gallery have transformed this old antique shop into a great place to find local arts of all kinds.

The first floor of the building houses a shop with art and handmade items of all shapes, sizes and prices.  There is also a separate gallery space – currently showing the works of Luke Homitsky until April 11, 2010. Continue reading

Weihnachtsmarkt this weekend is Historic Harmony

The Harmony Society warehouse (built in 1809) ...Image via WikipediaWeihnachtsmarket is German for Christmas Market.  Historic Harmony village, which is about a 25 minute drive north of Pittsburgh, is hosting their annual Christmas Market this weekend (Nov. 15-16, 2008).

Now it has been a few years since I took the tour of the Harmony Museum but here is what I remember about Harmony – The historic Harmony Village is located on the site of the Harmony Colony – which was establised in 1800, the harmonists later moved to Indiana and back to Western, PA.  The Harmonists were celibate and eventually they all died.

While you are there stop by the Bottle Brush Gallery – a new art gallery and gift shop in downtown Harmony that some friends of mine opened last month. This weekend is the opening of a new show – water color paintings from Maria Kovalenko Leysens.
