This Looks AMAZeing! Coolspring Corn Maze

2017 UPDATE: The Coolspring corn maze is open until November 5, 2017. Address and hours are available on the Coolspring Corn Maze website here.

Coolspring Corn Maze

I caught a glimpse of this thing from the article in the Post-Gazette last Friday and I can’t believe I didn’t find it sooner. The Coolspring Corn Maze is a 10 acre maze of cornfields, which is impressive enough but the whole maze is in the shape of a stage coach. This field of fun is located near Mercer, PA it is probably about an hour and a half drive away from Pittsburgh. This year’s theme is the Wild West, so that explains the stage coach and they have set up a wild wild west town.

This family checked out the maze on Oct. 12 – I think it is funny that just two weeks ago they were wearing shorts to check out the maze and now I am sitting here watching the snow falling.

I did some asking around about this and I found someone who did the maze last year – you can go at night and try the maze in the dark. They also have hay rides and a farm market too.

Maze Hours:

Friday 5-11pm
Saturday 1-11pm
Sunday 1-6pm

The maze is open through Halloween weekend. More info at CoolspringMaze.com Continue reading

Haunted Boat Ride on the RiverQuest Explorer

RiverQuest is awesome and one of those cool things that didn’t exist when I was a kid.  RiverQuest, which used to be called Pittsburgh Voyager, is a floating classrom that is here to provide hand on learning on the rivers.  Earlier this summer, RiverQuest moved to a new vessel that is a green, environmentally friendly ship – the Explorer is one of the first green passenger boats in the world.

To celebrate the Halloween Season they have organized a spooktacular “spirits of the Riverfront” Cruise.  I really want to go on this – 2 hours of scary stories and visiting haunted spots along Pittsburgh rivers.

The final cruise is this Friday, October 24 7-9pm.  Tickets are $10-$15.  Click here for all the details.

Family Fun – Millvale's Creepy Harvest Party

A pumpkin carved into a Jack-o'-lantern for Ha...Image via WikipediaMillvale is happening these days, well I think things have been happening in Millvale for a while now but they have had some great events recently.  Millvale is super close to Pittsburgh, just a quick trip across the 40th Street Bridge and you are in the heart of Millvale. Just along the rivers is the beautiful Riverfront Park (I think this is one of the hidden gems of the regions parks – check out my picture from this summer – you can see the river be hind the sculpture.)

This weekend is all about the kids – stop by the riverfront park from 5-7pm for all sorts of family fun – pumpkins, apple cider, face painting, scary stories and more.  Just $3 a kid, parents are FREE.  This is the perfect excuse to check out the riverfront park and to enjoy fun fall treats like pumpkins and apple cider and scarecrow making.
