The Best Fest of All The Rest – KayaFest

With Memorial Day weekend a few days away – we are entering one of the best times of year here in Pittsburgh – summer time also means neighborhood festival time.  Pittsburgh celebrates neighborhoods and cultures like no other place – there will be weekend after weekend of amazing free activities, music and ethnic food.  The greek food festivals a few weeks ago were the sneek peek of what is to come for the next few months.

But I am going to go ahead and say that the best fest of all the rest might just be KayaFest.  First off thanks to the folks from BigBurrito for being awesome Pittsburghers.  BigBurrito is the restaurnt group that started with the Oakland MadMex many years ago and now runs many of the tastiest places in town.  They make good food, the support local farmers and they do good things for Pittsburgh. Time: 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Cost: Tickets $20
Join The Warhol and big Burrito on the second Friday of every month for ongoing Good Fridays beer tastings. Socialize while sampling art and featured regional microbrews, while representatives discuss the unique qualities of their brews. Complimentary lite food accompaniments.

Pittsburgh's Chef Bill Fuller Brings the Bacon and The Terrible Towel to the Today Show

Description unavailableImage by arvindgrover via Flickr

Big Burrito’s (They are the folks behind the most tasty dining spots in Pittsburgh – MadMex, Kaya, Soba and others) Chef Bill Fuller (and food blogger) appeared on the NBC today show this morning (it will air here in Pittsburgh at 1pm) for a Super Bowl cook off. Bill is a regular guest on KDKA’s Pittsburgh Today live and does a great job. Today was no exception. He put together an amazing spread of super bowl food that shows off Pittsburgh. On super bowl days – fried onions are vegetables.  In addition to burgers and bacon – Bill shows off some other local favorites – Iron City Beer and Gobs.  Where can one purchase those delicious looking treats?

Very Important Info – Happy Hours in Pittsburgh

MartiniImage by ginsnob via FlickrThe kind souls who write the e-newsletter for the Big Burrito group included this handy list of Happy Hours in their last email (as well party with Chef Bill Fuller). I thought it would be wise to republish this list here for future reference.  Where else do you go for happy hour?  Please leave a comment below or send an email so we can keep adding to this list.

  • Casbah, 5 pm to 7 pm
    • Visit our comfortable lounge or bar for a wide selection of cocktails and wines for just $6. Plus, $1 off all beers by the bottle.
  • Eleven, 4 pm to 6 pm

    • One of the city’s happiest! Kaya keeps it delightfully simple with half off all* single serving drinks. Beers, wines, tropical drinks, cocktails, you name it. Great with a couple tropas. *There are a few odd exceptions, including perilously strong Belgium beers.
