Do you love Pittsburgh? Do you love to tell stories? Are you interested in getting involved with a loveable crew of misfits searching for some new talent? We’re looking for some new writers and entrepreneurs to get involved with the IheartPGH family. Think you have what it takes? Check out what we’re looking for below.

Storytellers– Are you a writer, podcaster, photographer, or videographer interested in telling the story of Pittsburgh and its amazing people? We need outgoing creative types to help us fill the site with inspirational stories found everyday in Pittsburgh. We’re interested in different mediums to tell stories, so if you feel compelled to tell a tale, shoot us an email.

Entrepreneur/Brand Manager- Are you interested in helping manage an established brand? Are you perhaps an aspiring entrepreneur looking for experience in a start up? IheartPGH would love to chat with you. We’re seeking a passionate person to help on the business end of IheartPGH, with an interest in Brand Management and possibly editorial aspirations.

Nuts and Bolts Stuff. IheartPGH would be happy to take on students looking for internship experience as well as Pittsburgh enthusiasts interested in becoming more involved in the city. I came to IheartPGH looking to cover interesting people and events, and have been grateful since Day 1. There is room for innovation as well as personal creativity–an excellent experience for self starters.

Want to get involved? Shoot Lindsay an email Lindsay@iheartpgh.com, including your name, favorite blog (besides IheartPGH), and what you’d like to help us out with. We’re looking forward to hearing from you!

Breaking Bad Trivia Night – Wed.Sept 25 @ James St. Gastropub

I mentioned this event last week on Twitter and it seems that Pittsburgh is home to a few Breaking Bad fans.  Here are the details for the Breaking Bad Trivia Night on September 25.

I was all set to write a long post about this trivia night filled with Breaking Bad references – however this blogger only watches the city of Pittsburgh channel and Pittsburgh Today Live.  Thankfully, every other publication in Pittsburgh has posted about this trivia night – you can read more about the trivia night …

If you are looking for a regular trivia night – Wednesday is a big trivia night in Pittsburgh – Brillobox, Cappy’s and Harvard and Highland host trivia events every Wednesday nights.  I don’t know much more about the Geeks Who Drink folks who are organizing this event – from the Facebook page it looks like they are running the Breaking Bad trivia in several cities on September 25.  I do know that Brillobox, Cappy’s and Harvard and Highland are all locally owned establishments and there is no charge for their trivia nights.

Here are the FAQ for the Geeks Who Drink

How do you sign up? Where do you buy tickets? You don’t.
Get to the quiz venue early (we recommend an hour minimum) with cash for your entry fee to ensure seating.

What should I do with the money if I win?
YOU NEED TO PAY YOUR TAXES, TED

Is this a free quiz?
No, it’s $5 per person to play (bring cash!), and we’ll ask you to pay for everyone on your team before we give you quiz materials.

What’s the maximum/minimum players per team?
There is no minimum, but if you want to win, you should have a fully staffed squad. Use our Facebook and Twitter to recruit. Team maximum is strictly six players, as always.

Can we play the quiz twice by traveling to another city?
No. No. And no. First of all, that’d be impressive, because our themed quizzes are now always on one day (with the rarest of exceptions). Secondly, even if you figure out a way to cheat, don’t do it. We will catch you, and we will cram you into a plastic barrel and pour our beers on you.

Can minors play?
That’s entirely up to the venue. Check with them.

Do spectators have to pay?
Yes. Yes, they do. Spectators generally have to pay for sporting events, right? This also goes for Geeks Who Drink employees that aren’t working at the event.

Can my dad/girlfriend/friend sit at our table and not play?
No. Six people max seated at a table and all players must pay.

Can you host this at BLANK bar in BLANK city?
No. We host these at venues that meet certain criteria. So, if we’re not in your city, there won’t be a quiz. If we’re in your city, and there’s no quiz, we’re sorry. Feel free to let us know if you think demand is there, and maybe next time we’ll get it started.

Is there a prize for second place?
Nope, this is winner take all. But second place is impressive; you should be proud.

How is the prize amount determined?
In most cases, the prize amount is 50% of the total take. Why not 100%? Because we have to cover our costs of producing and marketing these event quizzes.

Will BLANK TOPIC be covered?
Everything is fair game. Study hard. Apply yourself. And we never give clues.

Do I need to RSVP?
Seating is first-come, first-served and there are no reservations. These things quite often sell out, so get there early to guarantee a seat.

Hack A Ford This Weekend – Calling All Developers and Hackers

FordopenxcTechShop Pittsburgh will be hosting a Ford OpenXC workshop this weekend.  Ford has developed the OpenXC platform to allow developers and hackers to build an app that harnesses data from your car.

OpenXC is a combination of open source hardware and software that lets you extend your vehicle with custom applications and pluggable modules. It uses standard, well-known tools to open up a wealth of data from the vehicle to developers.

The Ford Team will be in Pittsburgh this Friday and Saturday (September 13 and 14, 2013) for a weekend workshop.  The cost is $35  $15 and includes dinner, lunch, snacks and the OpenXC kit.

You can get all of the details for the event here on the TechShop Pittsburgh blog and you can register for the event here.  Space is limited so don’t wait to sign up.

Meet Jack

You may recognize this Britt from his video last month–“Jack Holden Loves Pittsburgh”. He truly loves the place and is looking for work in our fair city. Here’s a little more about Jack, and what he’d like to do in Pittsburgh.

Why Pittsburgh? What brings you to the city?

Initially, I came to Pittsburgh to visit my girlfriend from Mt. Lebanon. I didn’t really know much about Pittsburgh, other than what I was told by Dana before my first visit. By the end of my trip I had fallen in love with the city. It is unique compared to any other city that I have been to in the states. It’s got a funky, fresh, and alternative vibe which makes the city pretty exciting to be in.

On my first weekend of my first visit, we went to the Strip District on a Saturday morning. That was pretty special. I usually go to a market regularly in London where it’s overflowing with culture and smells of ethnic foods. But in Pittsburgh, it was surreal as there was heavy snow on the ground and this market going ballistic. Most of all, the friendliness and kindness of the people is the main attraction. You don’t get that everywhere, and there is this local feel and buzz in a relatively big city. Continue reading
