Networking With a Few Good Women – Propelle Happy Hour Thursday 11/14

One of the things that I am occasionally asked about is how to connect with other people in Pittsburgh.  Yes, Pittsburgh often seems like a super friendly place to be, but sometimes – and especially for those who are new to Pittsburgh – it can feel like it is hard to break into a new group of people.

If you are looking to connect with some impressive, inspirational, creative women in Pittsburgh – than Propelle is a great place to start.

Propelle was founded by three Pittsburgh women who wanted to create a group, a website and a series of events to help other women connect, network and propel their dreams forward.

Click here to learn more about the Propelle founders.

NHHemailwithplaneEvery 3 months, Propelle hosts a networking happy hour to give women in Pittsburgh and opportunity to meet, learn (and have some fun).  This Thursday, Propelle celebrates their 2nd anniversary with a happy hour at Savoy in the Strip District.  Anyone is welcome to attend.  Tickets are $5 online and $10 at the door, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting a local charity.  Previous Propelle events have sold out, so it is a good idea to buy your tickets ahead of time.

See who is attending and join the conversation on Facebook here.

Propelle Happy Hour Details

This month at Propelle, we’re focusing on work-life balance and how scheduling “you” in is a top priority. Meet other women who understand the juggle of entrepreneurship, relationships, family and are doing it as a solo-preneur. You are guaranteed to make a connection or five who get it.

Where: Savoy Restaurant ( 2623 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 )
When: Thursday, November 14th from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
RSVP: Tickets are $5 in advance and $10 at the door.

Last Tuesday, we went to the ballot box and Bill Peduto was ellected to be the next mayor of Pittsburgh.  One of the reasons why I think Peduto is a great choice for Pittsburgh is the amount of time he spends studying other cities .

I  have personally had the opportunity to learn about cities that are similar to Pittsburgh through GLUE (the Great Lakes Urban Exchange).  GLUE was founded by a Pittsburgh native and a Detroit native with the purpose of bringing together folks from rust-belt cities, cities that are all struggling with similar post-industrial revolution problems.  I’ve attended GLUE conferences in Buffalo, Milwaukee and Pittsburgh and had the opportunity to learn about how other cities are tackling problems that Pittsburgh is also trying to deal with.  [Some of the GLUE supporters continue to share articles and ideas on the GLUE Facebook page here.  We are working to put together a future GLUE conference – keep an eye on the GLUE Facebook page for details]. Dinner Party on a Boat – Maritime Sets Sail on Thur. 11/14

Today was one of the first Saturday’s that I realized that Fall/Winter is here.  When the weather is warmer, I tried to spend some time each weekend in a kayak or on a paddleboard.  Today was spent indoors watching a movie.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out Pittsburgh from the river – you are missing out.  To get almost anywhere in Pittsburgh, you’ve got to drive next to or across a river (sometimes two).  But it isn’t as east to get onto the river.

I just received an email about a delicious-sounding dinner party that will set sail on the Allegheny river this Thursday.  The folks from Urbanist Guide to Pittsburgh and Avenue B are teaming up to bring the dinner to the river.  I’m happy to see more people planning events that happen on the water.
