Silents, Please! The Mark of Zorro (1920) on 35mm
November 12, 2017 @ 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
When corrupt Governor Alvarado (George Periolat) crushes the poor people of Spanish California under his iron heel, wealthy fop Don Diego Vega (Douglas Fairbanks) sheds his silks, dons a mask and cape and becomes the legendary Zorro, defender of the people. Infuriated by Zorro’s meddling, Alvarado dispatches his right-hand man, Captain Ramon (Robert McKim), and Sergeant Pedro Gonzales (Noah Beery) who have a score to settle with Zorro for stealing away the object of their desire: the lovely Lolita Pulido (Marguerite De La Motte).
Musical accompaniment provided by organist Jay Spencer, resident organist at the Palace Theater in Canton, OH!
Screening from a 35mm print on loan from The Museum of Modern Art in NYC. The Museum’s materials for this film originate with a generous donation of nitrate prints and negatives from Douglas Fairbanks. Preserved by The Museum of Modern Art with support from the Film Foundation.
