Are you interested in being a mentor to a recently resettled refugee family? Do you want to show off everything you love about Pittsburgh to our newest residents? Many other have raised their hand, why don’t you join them?

Hello Neighbor is a new nonprofit in Pittsburgh that focused on supporting refugees through mentorship. We hosted our first class of mentors and mentees this year. We matched 25 refugee families from 7 different countries with 25 Pittsburgh families for a four-month mentorship program. It was a huge success, we received early-stage funding from The Heinz Endowments and USA for UNHCR to continue this work and also received some great media attention for our innovative approach towards refugees and mentorship from outlets include The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Pittsburgh City Paper, NBC News, PBS News Hour, WESA and more.

Now, we’re starting to recruit for our next mentorship class. It starts in March, 2018, but it takes a few months to get from application to acceptance.

That all starts now! Applications for potential mentors are open for 2 weeks only from November 6th – November 19th.

If you’re curious about the program and interested in learning more you have two great opportunities. First, an in-person Information Session on Thursday (11/9), graciously hosted by The Shop – Homewood where we will share highlights from the last cohort and talk about the program in more detail.

In addition, we’ll have alumni from the last cohort of mentors and mentees to share their experiences and have plenty of time for Q&A. Light food and refreshments will be offered. While we won’t have childcare, kids are more than welcome to attend.
