About “Le Trou” (1960)
————————
Four men in La Santé Prison decide to execute a prison break and are forced to bring on a fifth member, Claude Gaspard (Marc Michel), when he is assigned to their cell. The particulars of the escape, based on actual events, are rendered in painstaking detail as the five men dream of freedom. Directed by Jacques Becker.
About the Director, Jacques Becker
————————————
An apprentice of Jean Renoir (whom he was introduced to by familly friends the Cezannes) Becker, in the words of Truffaut “was the most reflective filmmaker of his generation, and the most scrupulous.”
