Katherine Hepburn! James Stewart! Cary Grant!
Philadelphia heiress Tracy Lord (Hepburn) throws out her playboy husband C.K. Dexter Haven (Grant) shortly after their marriage. Two years later, Tracy is about to marry respectable George Kittredge (John Howard). Determined to spoil things, Dexter—now working for “Spy” magazine–arrives at the Lord’s mansion the day before the wedding with writer Mike Connor (Stewart) and photographer Liz Imbrie (Ruth Hussey).
Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 100 percent, saying: “Offering a wonderfully witty script, spotless direction from George Cukor, and typically excellent lead performances, The Philadelphia Story is an unqualified classic.”
