Connect to the Pittsburgh Organizations via Social Media

out
Social-Media-CampaignImage by Gary Hayes via FlickrPittsburgh Parks Conservatory is a non profit organization that supports the parks in the city of Pittsburgh. They have been doing some great things in Schenley Park. Pittsburgh Parks Conservatory has set up on Facebook and Twitter to make it easier for you to follow their good work. The Mattress Factory does a great job of updating their Twitter account too.

What other Pittsburgh Organizations are you following on Facebook and Twitter?

Are you involved with an organization in Pittsburgh and want to get started with some social media outreach? I would start by setting up a fan page on Facebook.

Follow IheartPGH on Facebook and Twitter too.

What visitors are loving in Pittsburgh on Yelp

Yelp logo 2Image by sarabear via FlickrYelp.com is a great website where you can read and write reviews of local businesses (see my other post on Yelp here).  I was just looking around at some of the recent reviews in Pittsburgh here are some of the 4 and 5 star reviews from people who were visiting Pittsburgh.  Pittsburgh is not yet included on Yelp’s list of major cities, but I think we should work on that.  If you haven’t Yelped yet – start now.  And add IheartPGH as a friend too.

Pamela’s – Ryan from Oregon

…their pancakes are pure ambrosia.  I’ve never done cocaine, but I bet it feels like how Pamela’s pancakes taste.  Their homefries are excellent too.  They make great toast.

Moio’s Italian Pastry Shop – Kevin from Virgina

…their Tiramisu is out of this world so if you are leaving Pittsburgh or coming into Pittsburgh stop by Moios in Monroeville

Cafe Du Jour – Jonathan from California

…too bad i live almost 2500 miles away, or this would be my monthly chill hang for a european siesta. and it’s more than reasonable on price for what you get.

Public Art Gets into Google Maps

Google Street ViewImage via WikipediaThanks to Laura without Labels for blogging about this project today. Pittsburgh is one of those cities on Google Street View – basically google drove around the city taking panoramic photos of allmost every street and used fancy computer technology to stitch those photos together – you can drive down a street and check out a 360 view from the comfort of your own computer.

Well thanks to Roin Hewlett & Benn Kingsley’s Street With a View project there is a lot more to see on the Google Street View of Sampsonia Way – earlier this year they staged a scene for the street view photos.

Now when you take a tour of Sampsonia Way on Google Street view you will see all sorts of things from a giant chicken, to a parade with the Langly high school marching band.

Click here to check out the map.

Here is a video about the project:
