More Hockey to Help you Throught the Weekend

Just in case you aren’t following the NHL, the Pittsburgh Penguins have made it to the playoff and will be competing against the NY Rangers on Friday and Sunday. So if you are a die hard hockey fan and are wondering about how are you going to survive Saturday or if you are just looking for a fun Saturday afternoon activity – this is the event for you.

The Pittsburgh Celebrity Hockey team will take the ice against the Pittsburgh Pharaohs.

The fun goes down on Saturday April 26, 2008 at the Ice Castle Arena.  Doors open at 3:00 pm and the game will begin at 3:10. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for children under 12. There will also be an autographed memorabilia auction, and snacks and soft drinks will be available.  All proceeds benefit the MDA.

I hope PittGirl does a follow up post on this event.

Rare Opportunity to Check Out My Favorite Dining Establishment

Succor Soiree
Monday, March 10, 5:30-7:30pm at Enrico’s, 2022 Penn Ave., Strip District
$15/person to benefit the Union Project

I know this is last minute notice but I wanted to share this invitation with Pittsburgh. On Monday night there is a little event to benefit the Union Project (which is one of my favorite places/organizations in Pittsburgh) at the Enrico Biscotti Company in the strip district – which is probably my most favorite place to dine in Pittsburgh. Enrico’s Cafe is a tiny little hidden cafe behind the biscotti shop on Penn Ave that has an amazing atmosphere, delicious food, open kitchen.

The cafe is usually only open for lunch, but on Monday they will be open for this special event. The event is only $15 and everything goes to support the Union Project. I will be there – I hope you will consider stopping by for a great event.

Another fun fact about the Enrico Biscotti Company is that it was the setting for the film The Bread My Sweet – which starred Scott Baio and was filmed at the biscotti co in 2001. The film was released on video under the title A Wedding for Bella. You can read my blog post about the film here.

If you can RSVP to hilary@unionproject.org if not please just show up!

POWER Promises '08 ~ A Night of Hope

The 2008 POWER Promises ~ A Night of Hope benefit is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, at Heinz Field in the West Club Lounge. One of Pittsburgh’s premier fundraising events, POWER Promises will feature graduates of the organization’s specialized alcohol and drug treatment programs whose stories of recovery are a testament to their courage. The event, hosted by Honorary Chairs, Dr. Thomas and Joy Starzl, will include dinner, raffles and auctions, and entertainment by local jazz artist Etta Cox. The evening will also include the presentation of the “Window of Hope” award; this year’s honoree is the Women’s Leadership Initiative of GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare.

All proceeds will benefit POWER (Pennsylvania Organization for Women in Early Recovery), a local non-profit organization that provides gender-specialized quality treatment and support services for women who are changing their lives through recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs.

Reservations are available from POWER for $100 each. Patron reservations are $150. For more information or to reserve your seat, please call 412.243.7535, ext. 223, or visit www.power-recovery.com.
