Meet Hatfield Street

Lawrenceville is one of Pittsburgh’s most happening neighborhoods. Butler street has been booming with new businesses in the past few years.

Well, there is a new street of businesses in Lawrenceville, Hatfield street is filling up with more great places to shop and see local art. Stop by this weekend for a Hatfield Street block party.

Art & ‘Tique on Hatfield Street
At least 20 local businesses and artists from Lawrenceville will come together on the 4700-4800 block of Hatfield Street from 11 a.m. through 5 p.m. on August 18 to showcase all that Lawrenceville has to offer.

“Art & ‘Tique on Hatfield” is free to the public and will feature fine art, antiques, clothing, food, music, and live performances in a block party setting. The celebration is the result of a collaboration between the Hatfield Street Galleries: DNA Blue Collar Gallery, The Society for Cultural Exchange, Trinity Gallery, and Zombo Gallery.

“It’s like ‘Cheers,’ without the alcohol,”

That is how Holly Pultz describes North Side coffee shop Beleza in today’s Tribune Review.

“It’s like ‘Cheers,’ without the alcohol,” said Pultz, 64, of Allegheny West. “Everybody knows everybody else, and it’s full of interesting people with interesting ideas on life.”

Congrats to the whole Beleza crew for a successful coffee shop and a great write up in the Tribune Review.  Natalia wrote a blog post about Beleza last year and I have made a few stops there.  Actually, the last time I was there for a meeting it was so busy we couldn’t even find a seat.

The Trib article does a great job telling the story of how the coffee shop was started by sever friends who all moved to Pittsburgh together.

Another Reason to Visit Beleza…

The electric blue bathroom.  I have been wanting to write some blog posts about best bathrooms in Pittsburgh.  So I will start right here with Beleza.  Thanks for taking the time to decorate all areas of the coffee shop.

Pittsburgh is hosting the first ever Craft Congress this month. That means that all of the amazing people that organize craft fairs all over the US (like Handmade Arcade) are coming here to Pittsburgh to talk craft, and see that Pittsburgh is crafter heaven (DO NOT miss the Salvation Army Fabric Fair).
There is a big party that is open to the public, if you craft, like to buy crafts or like crafty people then you should attend.

TNY Presents…Love Bites

The New Yinzer is a magazine. http://www.newyinzer.com.

I am happy to write about this event.  A few years ago, before IheartPGH, possibly before blogs exisited, the New Yinzer published a book called Pittsburgh Love Stories.  I had to hunt for that book all over the city, it was one of the few books I really wanted to read.  I like reading about how  others see Pittsburgh, I have read and reread Annie Dillard’s An American Childhood many times.  So after hunting over this city, I found that book.  So I am equally excited that The New Yinzer folks have an even about love, not necessarily love for Pittbsurgh, but we can just focus on how much we love Pittsburgh all the time.  And yes, you can still order a copy of the book from the New Yinzer website.
