You should attend this event. You really should and I will give you a few reasons why…

  1. This concert was recommended to me by a person who really really knows music, he is an amazingly large collection and he would not waste his time with an event that was not amazing.
  2. Ligonier is just an hour away from Pittsburgh and is stunningly beautiful and nice, it is supposed to be hot this weekend and it is always cooler in Ligonier than it is in Pittsburgh.
  3. Calliope is a great organization for folk music in Pittsburgh. The do good things.
  4. The Ligonier theater is literally next to Joe’s Bar – this is a small, but amazing bar that has one of the largest collections of taxidermy in North America – worth a visit.

shopPGH – Red Star Iron Works, Entrepreneur of the Year

I was forward this article by my parents and it is definitely worth sharing.  I have been hearing a lot about Red Star Iron Works lately.  Red Star is a great business and a great story about art and business here in Pittsburgh.  I once visited the Red Star Iron Works shop when they were on Penn Avenues as part of the First Fridays on Penn Ave.  Red Star Iron Works is now located in Millvale and is thriving.  Red Star CEO Peter Lambert was named Western PA. Entrepreneur of the Year by the Small Business Association.

Red Star created the 3 rivers bike racks that are installed all over Pittsburgh – which I think are really wonderful – functional and beautiful.  I really like that Red Star brings creativity to functional things.  Checout their website www.RedStarIronWorks.com – which is filled with great pictures of what they have been working on.  Check out this railing at the 4th Street Kayak Launch

I must add that Red Star has a wonderful website – I spend a lot of time looking at websites and blogs – they have done a great job of displaying their projects and making information easy to find.

One of the easiest ways for you to love Pittsburgh is to support locally owned businesses.  Know of other Pittsburgh based businesses?  Please share – I would like to profile other places to shop PGH.  Click here to submit a business.
