Happy Hours

Lots of great happy hours to check out this evening

Drinking Green – Green Drinks is back at Bossa Nova. This months hosts are the great guys behind G-TECH, a new start-up company from some CMU students. I have had the opportunity to talk with both Andrew and Nathaniel from GTECH a couple of times – they have great ideas for the future of Pittsburgh and they are lots of fun. All are welcome to attend.

Drinking with the dogs

You can drink beer with some four legged friends. Animal friends is hosting Bark’N’Brew this Friday at Penn Brewery.

I am not sure if you can bring your own dog, I think that would be a good idea but I am not sure Penn Brewery would like that.

Your $5 admission gets you a lot more than the opportunity to drink with some furry creatures:

  • Boilermaker Jazz Band – one of the BEST in Pittsburgh
  • Raffle Prizes & Auctions
  • Guest Bartenders – Dave & Dave from OnQ.
  • Some handsome four-legged friends
  • Tasty beer

How Tall Is That Tree?

Now you can learn how to find out about the height of a tree and all sorts of interesting facts about Pittsburgh trees.

Check out this upcoming Sierra Club event…

Public Meeting of the Allegheny Group of the Sierra Club
Wednesday. July 11, 7:30-9 PM
Phipps Civic Garden Center, Mellon Park, Fifth and Shady Avenues, Pittsburgh.

MASTER CRAFTSMEN AND PENNSYLVANIA’ S CHAMPION TREES
Climb Them, Measure Them [Selectively Hand Harvest so as to Sustain
the Forests] and Create Classic Furniture from Them

This will be a specially exciting and interesting meeting as we have
a master arborist show how to get to the tops of big trees, a member
of the Eastern Native Tree Society show us how to determine how tall
those trees actually are, and a master woodworker show us how to
convert the wood from those trees into magnificent hardwood products.
Bernie Eckley, Tony Kelly and Jim Starkey will lead us in an
outdoor/indoor tour of Pennsylvania’ s exceptional hardwood trees,
demonstrating climbing techniques and how to tell how big a tree is,
then in a virtual tour of the Neshannock Woods furniture shop, show
the tools and techniques for re-creating 19th Century classic
furniture. If you admire big trees and superb joinery, come check this
out!

There will be plenty of opportunity to question these experts. If you
are really interested in any of these, we can create outings to follow
up on your interests.
