Win Win Win with the Text Message Scavenger Hunt

ATF Festival Organizers are excited to announce a partnership with Pittsburgh based DeepLocal to put an innovative twist on the traditional scavenger hunt.

GUMBAND, a new information platform developed by DeepLocal, allows users to send short text messages to a
local phone number to find nearby events or activities as well as directions by car, or bus to get from where you are to where you want to be. GUMBAND can also highlight historic sites and local landmarks that are often left out of the public eye.

If you’re interested in checking out this innovative technology, learning more about the organizations participating
in the Festival, and becoming eligible for prizes like $2,000 in GetGo gift cards and Annual Port Authority Passes, free FlexCar memberships, bikes, and and gear from REI then

Dragon Boat Festival

I am excited to write about this festival because The Dragon Boat Festival was one of the first events I posted when we started IheartPGH.com.

The festival is back for another fun filled day of chinese culture…

The Pittsburgh Dragon Boat Festival features traditional Asian music, dance, and food, plus arts and crafts for the children. Asian art, clothing, jewelry, fans, and much more is available along the Dragon Stroll. Learn how to use chop sticks, experience time-honored martial arts, demonstrations of Chinese yo-yo, tai chi, and much more.

Visitors are also welcome to try their hand at Dragon Boating. Each ornately-carved boat is 44 feet long and features brightly-painted dragon heads and tails that loom ominously at the fore and aft of each craft. A Dragon Boat seats 20 paddlers, a steersperson and a drummer to sound the beat. This is a truly unique experience and one that you may never again encounter.

Teams will compete all day and there will be food and activities to learn about Chinese and Pan-Asian cultures in Pittsburgh.

Can’t Make the Festival: Check out Three Rivers Rowing Asociation for Dragon Boat outings (and other opportunities to get on the water)

Pittsburgh Whiskey Festival Nov. 2

I have just recovered from the Steel City Big Pour (which was an excellent event) to find this info in my email, I know it is a few weeks away but this looks like a great event for whiskey lovers

The spirit of the American Whiskey Trail continues with the 2007 Pittsburgh Whiskey Festival, Pittsburgh’s first large-scale whiskey and premium spirits tasting event, to take place Friday evening, November 2, 2007 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the West Club Lounge at Heinz Field.

The 2007 Pittsburgh Whiskey Festival will attract and engage both “whiskey” and “whisky” enthusiasts alike. The festival will feature more than 60 premier distilled spirits producers and will present a wide variety of the finest Scottish, American, Canadian and Irish whiskies, including single malts and bourbons. Premium tequila, rum, gin, vodka and cognac will also be presented for tasting. The fest, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, will include a buffet and a silent auction.

Tickets to the Pittsburgh Whiskey Festival are $85 in advance and $95 at the door. Tickets are now available for advance purchase online at www.pittsburghwhiskeyfestival.com, along with additional event information.

Piper’s Pub also has some information about the event on their website (which is a great website).

This event is organized by the folks at Pittsburgh Wine Festival.
