Regent Square Theater is premiering the new AMC series Low Winter Sun on July 29 for free

Regent Square Theater is showing a sneak peek of the premiere of Low Winter Sun, the newest AMC series, on Monday, July 29 at 8pm.  Described as “a story of murder, deception, revenge and corruption in a world where the line between the cops and the criminals is blurred,” hopes are high for this complex drama.

Up to 4 tickets are available for free on a first-come, first-served basis at the theater’s box office or the Pittsburgh Filmmakers front desk (open Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm). There’s a nationwide Q & A session via Skype afterwards with the director, producer, and some of the cast members.

Filmed on location in Detroit, director Ernest Dickerson describes it as a film noir. “It’s about a hero who finds himself at the center of some very dark events, who has to try to get out, who wants redemption.”

Lennie James, one of the show’s main stars (Walking Dead viewers will remember him as Morgan, Rick’s saving grace in the first episode), said “this isn’t a story about the minutiae of police work. This is a thriller about people who have secrets and have ulterior motives.”

AMC has produced some of the most promising shows in recent memory, such as Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and The Walking Dead. Low Winter Sun is set to premiere on TV on August 11, after the premiere of the final season of Breaking Bad (who else cannot wait for this??). And by the way, Breaking Bad fans, David Costabile aka Gale has a role in this new series.

A New PGH Talk Show, TalkPGH, is Looking to Talk to You About Your Neighborhood

I have always thought we needed a better local talk show and this looks like just the solution.  TalkPGH is hitting the streets on April 6, 2013 one their first of many neighborhood tours.

They are looking to find folks in the following neighborhoods to help us find interviewees and shooting locations, as well as interviewees to be on the show.  If you are interested contact Nina info@talkpgh.com or 517.420.6715.

Needles’ Crowned

Deep in the belly of Lawrenceville, in the smoky Blue Moon bar, the Monday night crowd was breathless and rowdy, packed to the gills and glued to the television in anticipation.  In any other bar, it would have been the Steelers at the Superbowl or the Penguins in game seven for the Stanley Cup.  But no, it was the season finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Pittsburgh’s Sharon Needles was crowned winner of season four of the Drag Race amongst gales of cheers and slopped beers.  She distinguishes herself with her flair for horror and sharp wit.

Hooray, Sharon!  We’re so proud.  Can’t wait to see her back in Pittsburgh, a long summer of touring.

The evening’s line up will feature local artist’s talk shows designed to instigate intrigue and spur interaction. In addition to waffle cuisine there will be a variety of live interactive shows including Dave English passing his torch as the host of “The Unemployment Show”, T. Foley performing a talk show hosted by a ventriloquist dummy who’s reticent to perform in public, Terry Boyd’s “Anonymous Costumed Guest Hour” as well as cameos from other local favorites.

What is the Waffle Shop? Do they really serve waffles?

From the Waffle Shop website:

The Waffle Shop is a neighborhood restaurant that produces and broadcasts a live-streaming talk show with its customers, operates a changeable storytelling billboard on its roof, and runs a take-out window that sells food from countries engaged in conflict with the U.S. The shop is a public lab that brings together people from all walks of life to engage in dialogue, experimentation and the co-production of culture. The project functions as a classroom for students from Carnegie Mellon University, an eatery, a TV production studio, a social catalyst, and a business. Our customers are our funders, audience, and participants as we film during open hours, inviting interested patrons to express their unique opinions and personalities.

The Waffle Shop is supported by the School of Art at Carnegie Mellon University, The Center for the Arts In Society, East Liberty Development Inc, We Do Property, Sota Construction Services, the Sprout Fund, Whole Foods, and the sale of waffles.
