Pittsburgh Cares about Darfur!

I was at the Save Darfur rally in Washington DC yesterday. Aside from the awesome speakers, something caught my eye. A sign rise from the crowd & brought a nostalgic tear to my eye….of course being ever so unprepared, I was without a camera. Much to my surprise that little sign made it into today’s Washington Post Online – (it’s in a audio photo gallery and the only way I could save it was by doing a printscreen so sorry for the lack of clarity!) Go Pittsburgh! and thanks for coming down to show your support.

Ed note: A group of about 300 Pittsburghers went to DC for the rally through Pittsburgh Darfur Emergency Coalition: http://www.pittsburghdarfur.org/

An impressive coalition of regional organizations is helping to collect postcards to send to our leaders to take action in the Sudan. Organizations are listed below. If you would like to get involved, please contact David Rosenberg.

Highland Park

my favorite spot in pgh to take it all in — the H-pizzle, aka Highland Park! i suppose i thought of it today b/c it’s cold outside and summer seems so long gone. i spent many an evening there running & watching spectacular sunsets. it is not as glamourous as schenley or frick, but you get ducks, you get the reservoir, you get some nice views of waterworks, you get a killer playground, and you get anthony coccia’s italian ice. for a buck-fifty you can get 2 scoops (my suggestion is one scoop of cherry & one of lemon) & advice about life, love, and doing “the right thing, kiddo.”

The Best Dogzzz

D’s SixPax & Dogz (Regent Square) — I started going there last year at first for the beer (they have everything you could ever imagine). As I got drunk, I got hungry, ordered the world’s best cheese fries and one thing led to another. I know I’m a bad Hindu for what I’m about to say…but there is NOTHING that beats the succulence of a vienna all-BEEF hot dog (chicago style complete with neon green relish)! It is truly worth dying several times for.

More than that, D’s is my home away from home. When friends come to visit, I take them there. When I’m in a good/bad mood, it’s my favorite escape. I’ve even done my homework there. Sometimes, I go just to chat it up with no one in particular. The bartenders/line cooks are freaking cool and Dino (the owner) is quite possibly my favorite public figure in PGH. They are going to expand this month, so here will be more room to mingle. Go there, get your card stamped & keep them busy!
