The End of Television

The End of Television is a video program beginning when analog television ends. On February 17th, 2009 the U.S. television broadcast signal will change over from analog to digital. No television will receive a signal without a special converter boxOn February 17th, The End of Television will air through analog broadcast TV on channel 2 in Pittsburgh. When broadcasters turn off their analog transmitters The End of Television turns it’s analog transmitter on and broadcasts the program. Using a restricted and nearly obsolete medium (broadcast TV) , The End of Television re-imagines the omnipresent idea of “broadcast yourself.” We are accepting all videos submitted before the deadline and there is no submission fee.The End of Television will hold a countdown event on the evening of February 16th in Pittsburgh (Location TBA) and at midnight we will flip the switch.contact: ian.f.page@gmail.comor visit TheEndOfTelevision.blogspot.com for any images.jpegupdatessend videos to:The End of Television331 S. Donora.

Donora is a local band that I really like.  When I moved back here over the summer my friends kept telling me to check them out.  And I have, multiple times.  They truly live up to the good home grown band indie reputation I was promised.  As I write this at home with the flu, Donora is playing their first of two CD release parties on the South Side at the Rex Theater just one hour from now (8:30PM).  LohioMeeting of Important People and Br’er Fox are also playing – cover is only $5.  For those of you that miss the instant RSS, Donora’s second CD release is tomorrow (Saturday) at The Annex on Route 8.  This show is ALL AGES for $2 at 7PM.  Br’er FoxThe Blonde Girls, and Fight the Flow will also be playing.  If I manage to get off the couch tomorrow this is where I’ll be.

New Coffee Shop in Morningside

A friend and Morningside resident recently took me to the Morning Glory Coffeehouse on Chislett Street (1806 Chislett to be exact).  I’m a simple drip coffee drinker with a spoon-standing test for strength and the Morning Glory passed with flying colors.  Also, the apple turnover my friend purchased was delicious.  The decor was bright and modern with lots of vintage accessories like flowered thermoses and cool milk carafes.  While any coffeehouse that invites you to “throw a record on our turntable” garners immediate hipster cred, the staff is friendly and the bright colors of the vintage books and games keeps everything feeling fresh.  Morning Glory also has free wireless and live music events.    window.jpg   counter.jpg
