Flickr This

Yesterday – I started playing with Flickr – if you are new to Flickr – it is an online service, that is now owned by Yahoo that lets you store and share pictures online. I set up this little box here on the side bar to show all pictures that have the tag “IheartPGH” –
Yesterday – a search for I heart PGH revaeled jsut 5 little pictures of Pittsburgh. But now, less than 24 hours since I added the Flickr side bar – there are tons of pictures with the tag IheartPGH! and these are some amazing pictures – I ws trying to avoid the hype about Ben but the picture of the Steeler fan outside of Mercy hospital is just another reason to “heart” Pittsburgh.
So, if you have pictures, pictures of Pittsburgh – please add the tag IheartPGH.

“Pittsburgh called one of the smartest places to live”

Millionaire’s lifestyle on a middle-class budget?

This is just one of the reasons that Pittsburgh is called one of smartest places to live by Kiplinger’s Magazine.

We already know that Pittsburgh is a smart place to live but it is nice to be recognized. It is nice to see that other people are picking up on reasons to love Pittsburgh. Here is what the authors of the study remarked:

TOP TEN
#9 Pittsburgh, Pa.

June 2006

What we loved: The city’s ethnic European cuisines. The pierogies served at The Church Brew Works — formerly a Catholic church that’s now a brewery — were marvelous.

The best vantage point for surveying Pittsburgh is atop Mount Washington. Hollows and streams in the surrounding hills carve out distinctive neighborhoods that are linked by more than 700 bridges. Steeples of 19th-century churches dot tree-lined streets. Glittering skyscrapers cluster at the Golden Triangle, where the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers meet to form the Ohio.

Cinco De Mayo is coming soon

I am not sure why it did not occur to me to me write a post about Mad Mex before. Mad Mex is like a home away from home for me, so I guess I assumed that everyone knows about it and eats there as often as I do. I don’t have time to give a full ode to Mad Mex – I am sitting here at Mad Mex finishing my excellent lunch special and I have to hurry so I can get back to work.
But I did want to take a moment to give everyone a head up about Cinco de Mayo celebrations at Mad Mex. I just gave my lovely server Sarah one of the I Heart PGH baby buttons and some of the other servers have already stopped by to see if I have more. I heart Mad Mex and the staff loves this website.

Anyhow, Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that I think should be celebrated – so save the date on your calendar and head over to Mad Mex for
$1 off Mexican Bottles
Breakfast Burritos starting at 9am
$5 big azz margaritas
and
A Chance to win free mad mex for a year (which is about the best thing I would ever want to win ever)
Mad Mex Menu

Where is this place? The original Mad Mex is hidden in Oakland. Great location (just be warned it is usually loud there.) Plus there are some other Mad Mex locations in ‘gasp’ the suburbs. Which is another reason I heart Mad Mex because they provide a safe and healthy place for me to dine on those rare ocassions I have to stray from the city.

a special day for Pittsburgh’s best neighbor

As you know we here at I heart PGH are not big on celebrities – but this post is about one special friend of Pittsburgh, who probably did not consider himself a celebrity.

March 20th marks the birthday of Mr. Rogers – yes that is the Mr. Rogers of Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood.

Yes another important claim to fame – Pittsburgh was home to Mr. Rogers and Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood was filmed right here in Pittsburgh. Not only is this one of the best and most loved children’s television shows ever, but Fred Rogers was an outstanding person and gave much to Pittsburgh and children around the world.

You can read some more about the history of Mr. Roger here

But I would also reccomend googling “Fred Rodgers” – There are just many wonderful things that were writen about Mr. Rogers after his death that describe what type of person he was. And if you had the great fortune of meeting him in person, as I can attest to, he was just true to character.

I added Mr. Roger’s birthday to my calendar a few years ago and when it popped up as today’s reminder – I did a quick google search to double check the date. I came across some lovely writings about Mr. Rogers. I think that both of these articles demostrate what type of person Mr. Rogers was…

(I found these articles this morning and I have thought about them all day – I was just about to turn out the lights but I decided that I had to get out my computer and recognize Mr. Roger’s birthday).
