Hey yinz! I wanted to let you know about an awesome new musical that is having it’s world premiere right here in the ‘Burgh! The show is called THE GLORIOUS ONES (Now thru May 20 at Pittsburgh Public Theater) and it is a very funny musical about a troupe of street performers in 17th century Italy. These troupes performed what was called commedia dell’arte, or slapstick and improvisational comedy. These actors are considered the first comedians and most of the best modern comic actors studied this genre (Charlie Chaplin, Lucille Ball, Jim Carey, etc.). But, what really makes this show great is the fact that it was written by two Tony-Award winners, Lynn Ahrens (book and lyrics), and Pittsburgh native, Stephen Flaherty (music). Stephen Flaherty grew up in Dormont and graduated from Seton La Salle High School. These writers won the Tony award for Ragtime. So, if you want to be one of the first people in the world to see a great musical, now is your chance! For tickets, call Becky at 412.316.8200 ext. 704 or e-mail her rrickard@ppt.org and mention this posting and you can get the best seats available for any performance for only $25.50!
