Isabel Allende has been called one of the most important voices in contemporary Latin American literature. Best known for The House of the Spirits, she once again interweaves imaginative stories with important historical events.
In Allende’s new novel, In the Midst of Winter, a simple car accident brings together a 60-year-old human rights scholar, a young, undocumented immigrant from Guatemala, and a 62-year-old lecturer from Chile in a mesmerizing love story that moves from present-day Brooklyn to Guatemala in the recent past to 1970s Chile and Brazil.
Born in Peru and raised in Chile, Isabel Allende is the author of a number of bestselling and critically acclaimed books, including The House of the Spirits, Eva Luna, Stories of Eva Luna, Of Love and Shadows, Daughter of Fortune, and The Japanese Lover. Her books have been translated into more than thirty-five languages and have sold more than 65 million copies worldwide. In 2014, President Obama awarded Allende with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
