Tangible Histories & the New Yinzer

In a quiet area of Pittsburgh, beneath a bell tower backlit by the night’s moon, a pair of sturdy church doors flies open and welcomes the flow of people who file into the sanctuary and find a seat beneath vaulted ceilings and stained glass windows. Something is awry. The hymns and silent prayer that once filled its walls have been replaced with a pulsing rock song, which is drowned out by the drone and buzz of socializing young people. There are no Sunday hats or white gloves. No black paten shoes or children in red bow ties. Only the sleek designer duds of Pittsburgh’s young professionals and the thrift-store finds of their hipster counterparts.
