Git Aht! – Things To Do This Weekend

(Things to do before you FedEx your shampoo to yourself on vacation…)

Friday, August 18
Think Pink, 5:30 p.m., Altar Bar, In The Strip
Let’s do our Drinking For A Cause early this week and hit the benefit for Adagio Health, who have a program that does breast and cervical cancer screening for unisured women in western PA. Andrew Stockey is the MC, but I don’t think that means he’ll drop any phat rhymes. Or maybe he will… I met him once, he seemed like a really cool guy, about the right age to, like me, know almost every word to Rapper’s Delight. Well, maybe after enough $2 well drinks and domestic bottles he and I can bust into a little King Of Rock and we’ll gently remind everyone in attendance that there is none higher, and sucker mc’s should call us Squire… Who knows?

Soulcialism, 9:00 p.m. White Eagle, Sahsside
Sweaty dancing to the finest 60s and 70s Soul Music and no cover. I’m not sure I need to say more than that. To paraphrase Samuel L. Jackson, you either want to do that or you don’t.

Saturday, August 19
Barcawl – North Shore Side, 7:00 p.m., Starting at New Moon Fusion, 20 E. General Robinson
It’s… a… Hold on, I need a moment to compose myself…

(the one place has like, 90 beers!!! w00t!1!!)…

Hold me…

Ok, I think I’m ok… All right… It’s a bar crawl all over the North Side. Bar crawls are like the Holy Grail of drinking, but, like the guy that melted at the end of the Indiana Jones movie, you must choose wisely. One of those choices is a cab. Otherwise, you melt or something. Another important choice is not to blow yourself out at the first bar. DO NOT blast a couple shots at the first place you go to while shouting “WOO-HOO!!! This is gonna be AWESOME!”, cause you will NOT enjoy places 3 through 7 nor will you end up awesome. Trust me on this.

Blind Date – 10 Artists, Five Works, 7:00 p.m., Moxie DaDa Gallery, Lawrenceville
One of Git Aht’s (Holy crap! Third-person! Stop it!) hobbies is photography. Another one of my hobbies is pursuing unattainable women. Ok, so, that second one’s more of a quest, really. But the photography thing is something I like to do, and I enjoy going to gallery shows, becuase it gives me the chance to steal, err, be influenced by the great work of others. This week, the Moxie/DaDa-ists open a new show called “Blind Date” in which artists are paired together for a collaborative work, but neither actually knows what the other is doing throuhgout the creative process. I personally know one of the featured photographers and although I haven’t seen any of the work to be debuted at this show, his other stuff is amazing. And hell, it ain’t that far from all the Larryville bars, and that’s always A Good Thingâ„¢.

Sunday, August 20
Reservoir Of Jazz – Kenia, 5 p.m., Highland Park
Bring a chair, relax enjoy Summer. Skip some stones across that rigid cover that hides the water. It’s fun hearing the rocks clang!

Flick: Cats And Dogs, Duskish, Flagstaff Hill
Y’know, I haven’t always been real enthusiastic about the choices for the Flagstaff Flick, and this week is no exception. Or something. Go see Snakes On A Plane or something, I dunno… I mean, they screened the well-done biopic “Walk The Line” this past Wednesday (Git Aht is a big Johnny Cash fan), but they’re pimping “Cats And Dogs” for the Sunday show?

Sheesh.

Well, ok, at least Goldblum’s in it, and he’s got a free pass for life, basically, just for being in the insanely awesome flick “The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai“. I mean, that’s the only reason I forgave him for Independence Day. So… there’s that I suppose.

And it’s free. Thank God.
